Ok, I KNOW what a sidekick is, but I have lotsa questions....

1. Can I use it as a normal cell phone?

2. If my friends dont have a sidekick can I still text and call them?

3. Does it HAVE to be on T-Mobile?

4. Can you use it like a Nextel/Boost?

If not, what can I use that is similar to a sidekick and can be used as a nextel?

5. Like what are the basic differences/ pros and cons/ of Sidekicks and Cell Phones/Nextel/Boost??

lol I know lotsa questions, but I was offered one for my bday i need to chose wisely, hahaha

  1. 1.yes

2.ofcourse, texting is standard on any modern cell phone

3.no, if you buy one unlocked and de-branded, it can be used with any GSM provider like ATT

    4. No, it does not support IDEN network push to talk.

5.Sidekicks are very hard firmware locked, you cant install third party apps or stuff from net, Tmobile purchased only. Nextel is awsome with push to talk if your friends have nextel as well. Boost is prepaid version of Nextel, get Nextel contract instead but only if you have friends that have push to talk as well

  2. Yes a sidekick is like a normal cell phone. I have the sidekick slide. The only difference between the sidekick and a regular phone is that you have to slide the sidekick open to dial the number or find your contact, once you push call you close the slide and continue the call like normal.

There are sound profiles you can set up, even a schedule for when you want it silent or not. There are alot of options but the menu is pretty easy to figure out once you get used to it.

Your friends dont need a sidekick to recieve a text or call from you. That functions just like any other cell phone.

Yes the sidekick has to be on tmobile. If you get oe unlocked and try a different company you still dont be able to use the phone because you need to have the Sidekick data plan from tmobile to use the features.  I get 1,000 min plus unlimited text, email and internet for $60.   $40 for the plan and $20 for the data plan.

you cant use it like a nextel or boost. They use a totally different network.

I actually like the sidekick Slide alot because it is not too big, once you get used to the keyboard it makes texting and calling a breeze. The internet is slow but it is good if you need to look something up away from home. The email feature is also a plus. When you send an email from it expect it to take a bit longer then if you sent it from a computer.

The Sidekick slide also have a very decent speaker phone and speaker for ringtones. The games and applications and ringtones available do cost so choose wisely if you buy one.

There is also an mp3 player in the phone. If you get a mini SD chip you can hold many songs.

The camera is so so, it is not horrible but it is not the best. There is not a flash however there is a night and day setting. Viewing the pics you took on your phone might not impress you much but if you email the pic to yourself it comes out very big and quite nice looking.

    Bluetooth works good too!!

The Sidekick might take some geting used to at first but give it time and you wont want to go back to a regular phone.  I hope this helps your decision. Happy Birthday!
