  1. For the English disciplines...get an all purpose saddle. You can jump, do basic dressage and you CAN go on a trail ride with an English saddle so you could do that too.

I don't think there are any western/englsih saddles, but I've heard of country English...you could see what that is, i don't know what it is, or what it is used for but you could check it out.

  2. If you are looking for an English saddle many makers make something called an all purpose or and event saddle.

They can be used for flat work jumping and dressage. They are a nice choice if you do several things.

I have one and I love it. I also trail ride in it.

I also have two western saddles.

One Tucker and one Circle Y both are considered trail saddles.

Pretty versatile and can be used for most western stuff.

  3. its impossible to do western and english w/ the same saddle. but i recommend an purpose saddle. best saddle i ever had!!!!

  4. Well for Huntseat (Jumping), Dressage and trails your best bet is to find an ALL PURPOSE English saddle.

What you want is a EUROPEAN made saddle.  First because they are better made, secondly, because they hold their resale value if cared for properly.

I've had a Stubben Siegfried All Purpose for nearly 40 years, I've bought other saddles, but the Siegfried is still here.  I've jumped with it (Used it over my one and ONLY 6' fence in '77!), done Dressage under Maxine Clarke in it and hacked (Done trails) in it for decades.

There are other makers out there, but because I know my Stubbens really well, I can't say enough about them.  You can also check out Kieffer, Pariani and a few others.

Those are a few Stubbens to look at.  Also to measure your seat size you need to take a measuring tape and start at your knee and go up to your hip.  That will give you your seat size.  However, you didn't say what type of horse you have.  Med to Wide trees, will fit anything from a TB to a QH.

BTW, you can sit "Western" in an English saddle, but you can get lost doing it.  ROFLOL  BTDT.

  5. For engilsh, i use an all pupose saddle. its great. i jump. to dressage. even do barrels in them. not competivly though.

  6. go for an all purpose saddle, it will be the most comfortable for what you want to do.... but you can't do western with an english saddle... thats why they have western saddles, lol. Saddles are made for different discipline for a reason!

  7. I would say get a basic all-purpose english saddle for your english interests, and a good used western saddle, for your western & trail interests....personally speaking (i have both) I prefer to trail ride in the western, because they are much comfier than english saddles in general...easier to relax in a western than in an english....

    Good Luck! Happy Trails

  8. you can get a general all purpose english saddle and that would work for just riding around at home or small shows, wintec are comfortable and cheap because they are synthetic versus leather, but if you wanted to go to large shows you would need to get a saddle for each event as dressage saddles and jumping saddles are quite different in the way they are made. as far as western goes, the same maker has pretty cheap western saddles too. you culd ride on trails either english or western, it's up to you. the best thing to do would be go to your local tack shop and find a saddle that fits both you and your horse properly versus buying one without trying it first. hope this helps.

  9. An English saddle would work for everything you want to do EXCEPT western riding if you mean barrels and cutting, stuff like that.  you'd definitely want a western saddle for those activities.  But for trails, an English saddle works just fine.  My wife trail rides in one.

  10. All purpose saddle!...but for western, you might be able to western reining, but not go to a show with an english saddle doing western.

  11. GP - general purpose saddle
