Ok,so now iknow you can see if the egg fertilised.thz, but can...?

so can i keep the fertilised egg in there with all the other hens and roosters? they will not pick at it? are the mother will not stop caring for it no more???

peterorbob@yahoo.com plz i have chickens. and i just lost one,can bird's pick them up. there like teenage chicken...hlp please

  1. For some reason a mother hen knows which ones are fertilized and watch over them good. From start to finish an egg will hatch in 14 to 16 days if I remember correctly. I wouldn,t worry. They say a fertilized egg will float.


  2. leave the eggs under the hen!! and don't put them in water to see if they will float.  When you leave the egg in the nest once she has a few eggs she will start to "set".  Once she is setting, leave her alone.  Make sure she has food and water available, but don't be worried if she doesn't eat.  Once she sets, it will take 19 to 23 days for the chicks to hatch.  21 days is normal, but it depends on the temperature where she is setting too and the time of year.
