  1. The first poster is correct -- it's much too expensive to send food there. It would be much more beneficial for you to raise funds and awareness for an organization.

So, you wouldn't just collect and encourage donations -- you could also try to educate your peers about the situation in Haiti -- how this humanitarian crisis happened, what the conditions are on the ground, what organizations are working there, and what they can do about it. You could do this by:

-- putting together information to post on your online profiles at MySpace, FaceBook, wherever

-- linking your online profiles to organizations working in Haiti that also have profiles on MySpace, and encouraging your friends to do the same

-- gathering friends to help organize fundraising/awareness activities. A booth/table at the mall or at school? (if such is allowed). A speaker at your school who know about Haiti, such as a returned PeaceCorps member or immigrant from there?

The World Food Programme is doing a lot of work in Haiti, and you can make a restricted gift to WFP to go only to their work in Haiti

UNICEF is also doing work there

CARE International UK is also working in Haiti

As you read through these web sites, you were learn more about the situation in Haiti, which can help you educate others about such.

  2. Haiti??

It is more expensive to send food supplies than to send money...so that they can buy their own food supplies. I would suggest you find a reputable charity and send donations to them.

  3. It's HAITI!
