  1. Don't worry about how you would be related to her kid.  Just focus on relating to the kid.  Just be an aunt.

  2. I have the same situation and I just tell everyone that I am his aunt.  You would really be only an aunt by marriage.

  3. Half- aunt technically, but I think aunt would be sufficient. I have two aunts that were my dads half sisters, and they always just been aunts to me.

I don't think people really do "step" with aunts/uncles since marriage is usually involved.

  4. You're the child's aunt. Don't get into the half this or step that because those labels are family separaters not family blenders.

  5. That would make you the kid's aunt, if your parent and his are still married.

  6. I never believed in "half" siblings. You either are or you're not, so keep it simple with "step-aunt."

  7. you be its step-half aunt

  8. Technically step-aunt, but the kid could just call you aunt.

  9. You would be his aunt leave that half stuff out I hate when people use that. You are family end of story.

  10. You would be the kid's half-aunt??

  11. Is the kid your half brothers kid? If not then you are not actually related to the kid. You could still however consider yourself to be the child's half aunt if you wanted. But in reality you aren't really the kids aunt.

  12. You would be the child's aunt.  We have the same situation in our family and to reduce confusion, we just refer to ourselves as the child's aunts and uncles

But, if you want to get technical, you would be the child's Half Step Aunt.  Sounds more like a dance move instead of a relative though ... LOL!

  13. I think it's your half-step-nephew.  you're not related by blood of course.

  14. your half brother would become the "step-father" and you could become a "step-aunt".

  15. That would just be your nephew-in-law, but just call him your nephew. They're all family. I consider people part of my family that have no relation in blood at all.

  16. Technically you would not be related. Culture plays a large part on what someone is called. Everyone is an uncle/cousin/aunt in Latin cultures. In American culture, good friends often become aunts/uncles. All dependent on your personal views, and how everyone gets along and/or how close everyone is. I treat my brother's step son like any other blood nephew, including a good kick in the rear when he needs it.

  17. That little boy is your new nephew.  Well, half-nephew, if you want to be technical about it...

  18. Step-half-aunt or Step-half-uncle (depending on your gender) to be technical, but you can just call yourself the aunt or uncle.

  19. By most definitions of the word you would be a step-aunt.
