  1. You can be a good actor with out being a professional actor or actress. All acting is, is pretending (good word for it). Lieing, (a more cynical word for it). But it's true acting is pretending to be something that you are not. If that's what you like doing, i'll say this it's not the noblist of careers ;). But if you're going to act, confine it to movies, television shows, & the theatre, & not the real world. Cause if you take it into the real world you're an a**. Better to be shy & honest if you ask me ;)

  2. most actors are shy acting is making up a person so you can BE them and not yourself

Tom Hanks    One of the greatest actors of our time, Tom's family moved frequently when he was child---making it harder for him to make friends.  His involvement in theatre helped to ease his resulting shyness.

  3. Heya

In my opinion after going and taking a qualification in drama and the performing arts in the UK is the biggest strength towards someones  acting talents is there ability to just let things go, let yourself go, I myself am quite a shy quiet person, that doesnt stop you from doing anything as long as you know when and when not to be shy.

If you go on stage and sum1 pokes you in a play and you cream with agony at the top of your lungs, thats ussually a lot better than some dialogue on 'ow you hurt me, why did you do that' - the people who excell in drama are people who just get out there and let themselves go, and the biggest difference to a beginner and an actor/actress is they dont get embaressed about anything they do.

People often worry about sounding stupid, silly, weird when on stage, and trust me, you look a lot more stupid if you show that your uncomfortable

you can do anything you want as long as you make sure you can have eye contact with tha audience  and can project yourself and not hold yourself back,

if you would find it difficult to go up on stage say in a school screaming contest or something and actually scream at the top of your lungs instead of doing a pretend scream, then you can do it

im not saying acting is just going around making a lot of noise and acting goofey... ofcourse you need to act! :-)

Think about it this way, the only ppl who forget lins are ones that are too scared and hold themselves in, if your not scared and you let yourself out you could make something up on the spot if you forgot your lines and no1 would notice

  4. Let me tell you a story. I was a shy kid. When I first started acting, I was this kid who hardly knew anything about acting and, to be honest, I wasn't that great. But this is how I overcame my shyness. I just got used to it. I got used to me performing while lots of people watched me. If you keep at it, you will emerge from a shy catepillar into an acting butterfly. (I know, cheesy metaphor). It will be rough at start, to overcome it, but you will get used to it and you will improve your acting skills. Also, I think what helpedme overcome everything was my passion for acting. That conquers everything. If you truly have a passion for the fine craft of acting, nothing can stop you. Keep at it. You'll do great. =]

  5. Acting is the game of "Let's pretend", grown up a little. When you pretend, you can be anyone you like, be as brave as you like, any time you want. When you pretend with other playmates, it's even better.

The great thing about acting is, that when you pretend, the people watching you want to believe you're the person you're pretending to be just as much as you do. In fact, if you pretend well enough, they will bang their hands together and sometimes stand up and yell "Bravo!" to show you how great your pretending was.

Simple, but that's what it's all about. Why do you think they call them "plays"?

  6. I know some great actresses who are very very shy in real life. Their faces get red, they tremble when they are being interviewed - in a live show for example- but it's different when acting. Because it's all about pretending well...
