  1. 9y - 6xy = 30

    y - 2xy = 15

    .......9y - 6xy =  30

    (+) -3y + 6xy = -45 [<-- multiplied "y - 2xy = 15" by -3 to get the add. inv. of -6xy]

    --------------------------------

    .......6y + 0xy = -15

    6y = -15

    y= -5/2

  2. 9y + 6xy = 30

    factor out y from the left side

    y(9 + 6x) = 30

    divide both sides by (9 + 6x) to isolate the y on the left side

    y = 30/(9 + 6x)

    y - 2xy = 15

    factor out y from the left side

    y(1 - 2x) = 15

    divide both sides by (1 - 2x) to isolate the y on the left side

    y = 15/(1 - 2x)
