I've attended regular schooling from kindergarten up to 8th grade. After that I developed some serious anxiety issues and had to be homeschooled from 9th-10th grade. I've become a little bit better with my anxiety problems but still not 100%. Meanwhile, my parents and even the highschool I attend homeschooling though are pressuring me to go back to regular school or at least do half of homeschooling and the rest at regular high school. I'm not sure if I'm ready and I personally like homeschooling better. I feel I'm doing better academically and I'm less distracted from others when learning. I will admit I'm not as sociable as I used to be but thats the only reason why I think they all want me to go back. I've got up until september to decide but I'm just so freakin confused right now. Another thing I'm considering is to just quit the whole high school system and go to straight community college for 2 years. I'm 16 and wouldn't mind skipping 2 years for higher education. Anyway help!!!!

  1. If you think you are missing out on a social life...and really ask yourself if you are...then going back to normal high school wouldnt be so bad. You could make some really good friends. But ifyou dont care about that and you feel you are ready for college then only your heart knows. But take others advice before you make such a tough decision

  2. Maybe you should look into speaking with a good psychologist. They could help you sort out your feelings and weigh your options. Everyone needs someone "neutral" to talk to, especially teenagers. And, maybe he/she could help you work through your anxiety issues. After all, even when you've graduated, you will need to work around people. Unless you work at home, but still you will need to be functional around people (grocery shopping, library, etc.)

Good luck... btw, I think everyone has some sort of anxiety with thelseves and in public. Many celebrities even. I just read that (I forget who now) said "I allow myself to be self-conscious for five minutes every day. Then I shut it out and be myself." ...It's helped me. I hope it helps you as you become more comfortable in yourself.

  3. I have one real answer for you.

Think about your future what you want to do and think about it in the long run will you get where you want to be in 5-10years?

If you know what you want go for it.

    Just be careful.

  4. Go to community college. High school is a waste of time. It makes sane people nervous.

  5. Christina,

I experienced something similar in my life.  I attended public schools through 8th grade and when I started 9th grade I began to have seizures and at the same time my family was moving to a new town.  We moved but the school would not allow me to attend because of the seizures.  As it turned out, I had a home teacher for about half or more of my high school years.  I was able to attend school during part of my Sophomore year and my Junior year because I was having fewer seizures.  The time I did go to school is the most memorable and happier times for me occurred then.  I made friends, learned some things I would not have learned at home, I even was able to play on the tennis team.  My high school education did not prepare me well for the university but I did go on to many more years of schooling after high school and caught up and more and eventually earned a BA degree 4 years ago.

One of the best things I did do was get my high school diploma.  I really squeaked by in getting it on time and graduated with my class in 1980.  I really hope you choose to give it a try and take some or all of your classes at the school.  I guarantee you will make some friends and get alot out of it and be glad you did.  Please do not quit H.S., make it your goal to earn that diploma and then after that you can plan for community college.  If you want to talk more about it, send me a message.  I hope that helps you, from someone who has been in a similar circumstance.

    Sincerely, Sally
