  1. I ran into this issue last year.  Thought we would do something cute for the kids... anyway, what I learned too late was that you need multiple vines/ seeds because they will not pollinate from the same plant.  Also, because of the bee crisis you may need to self pollinate the flowers by shaking a male flower over a female flower.

  2. do this to make sure you get some pumpkins. Get a small artists brush and go around to each flower and  brush the stamen in each flower to spread the pollen from flower to flower. In effect you be the BEE.

  3. What do you want from them, exactly? They're doing their best! Lay off the pumpkins!

  4. This is beacuse pumpkins put out all male flowers the first 2 to 3 weks..they are identifiable for they grow on long skinny stems..they usually fall off within 1 to 2 days..after a few weeks then you will see female flowers that will not be on a long stem but growing directly out of a main vine with a small pumpkin behind it..i will post this then try to find you some pictures as examples..

  5. They may still be producing male flowers only. You can tell the difference by the stem, males have a ling thin stem and females shorter with what looks like a tiny green, fuzzy fruit under the petals. I don't know about the media hype about the bee crises but I've noticed most of my cucumber, squash and melon being pollinated not by honey bees but carpenter bees, solitary bees, that sort of critter. Uneven watering can cause failure of fruit to set.
