Cool...  You sound like a leader not a follower and you obviously don't suffer from homophobia like most of the nay sayers do.

With careful consideration I would recommend a Cargo Mini Skirt that is PLAIN with lots of pockets and belt loops and wear with guy clothes so you don't appear as a cross dresser. It is a PERFECT substitute for shorts in hot weather. Far more practical and a skirt is MORE practical for a guys anatomy than a girls so I don't see a problem.

Most minis are are 11 to 15 inches long and about the same length as men's gym shorts so no big deal here. A micro mini is shorter yet and reserve that for the beach! Do wear underwear as to not give the trend you are starting a bad name.

You will discover something like 99% of the men have yet to discover and that is how comfortable a skirt is.

Forget KILTS: A Kilt IS a SKIRT by definition but are expensive and usually heaver material and few choices compared to women's skirts. Many women's skirts will work fine AS IS without modification. Just get them in Juniors sizes for a perfect fit for guys (hips aren't too big).

Have fun and don't pay attention to the obviously selfish girls answering here that say g*y, etc. they also suffer from homophobia are selfish and don't want men to break out of their super boring pants and shorts fashion.  Remember a guy in a skirt will still look like a guy just like a woman in pants still looks like a women.

Get a kilt.  Make sure it's not too short, just as a woman would, and for the same reason; also be sure that it's made of good-quality fabric.  I work with a fellow who wears a CHEAP kilt, and it looks awful - cheap fabric doesn't hang well on men OR women.  Get something with the same weight that you'd wear for a good pair of pants - wool or heavy twill; stay away from plain cotton.  There are lots of kilts out there - just run a search, and choose the ones you like.
