  1. You didn't say what kind of bird - a parrot? How tame?

If you see pink in the feather shaft leave it alone.  It is a blood feather and cutting it would be painful and could cause fatal blood loss.

If it's not a blood feather, it's broken and the bird will let you without panicking - you could clip the feather at or just above the break.  Clipping a broken feather that way is no different than clipping the primary feathers on the wings to discourage flight.

Don't pull it - it's painful, could damage the follicle and cause blood loss.

The rest of the feather will eventually come out on it's own.

  2. The blood feathers are the last few feathers on the tip of the wing. Chances are if hes knocked them and theyre barely hanging on if it was a blood feather- they would be bleeding.

If it was knocked out, or even if hes been pulling at it it means that its time for the feather to go- it wont take long for a new one to replace it. Let your bird pull the feather out himslef- he certainly wont appreciate you doing it for him.

  3. dont pull it you can cut it but makre sure it is not a blood feather i would say just wait the bird well pull it naturally and he will be fine if he does it himself

  4. Just leave it. He will pull it when ready or it will fall off when it is ready to. Mine always have this happen around molting time which it is. If it was a blood feather it would be bleeding by now.

  5. Do NOT pull it. Let it happen naturally, as it would in the wild. Birds are smart, they know how to take care of themselves.
