Manual Antonio National Park - it's beautiful and the beach is one of the best that I've seen.   Course, I've never been to a National Park in any country that wasn't incredible.

They have flights directly to Liberia, Costa Rica which is in the providence of Guanacaste and near the Pacific Coast.  Now you do not need to fly all the way to San José which is in the central valley and at least 2-5 hours from the beach.  It depends what kind of beach you are looking for and what type of facilities you want available.  The above link may help you plan your trip on any budget.

In the northern Pacific, I would definitely recommend Playa Grande.  It is much more quiet and peaceful than Tamarindo.  You can find some very good hotels around the area.  Since it is in the northern Pacific, you can expect less rain.

Definitely a beach on the Pacific. I LOVE Playa Conchal!! It is the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica. It is also nicely located near Tamarindo and Flamingo and has many hotels nearby for many different budgets. If you have to pick one beach make it Conchal, I promise you will not be disappointed!
