It looks like Vancouver wants to offer Flip an offer sheet. Now nothing is official yet, but here's the thing...Holland still has to sign Quincey, and Chelios which leaves just about 2.5 mil to sign Flip. Now, From the looks of things he doesn't want to leave detroit because he loves the team-mates and playing around good players, but If he's offered more, than 2.5 the Wings cannot match. Which IMO would suck. Now if he stays w/ the wings he could be a 2nd liner with a pair of stars..possibly Hossa and Franzen.

^ Thats the article

But My Question is....If Filppula left...do you think it will make a big impact on the Wings? His Career?

  1. Get over it. Nobody is a scumbag for making offer sheets. They are not barred from doing it, and teams get some sort of compensation if they don't match it. So the team who offers it loses more picks, the higher salary they pay.

It's not like it's a new thing either, it's been going on since the 80s. The only reason it seems to be more prevalent now is because it's easier to lose young players since the CBA is in effect, that and because Burke has whined about it since he lost Penner last year.

*You may not consider Wiki a reliable source, but the information for these are correct.*

  2. Gillis, much like Kevin Lowe, is a scumbag for making these offer sheets...

Seeing as UFA begins at age 27 (possibly age 25), I think it is totally unnecessary for teams to go after others' RFA's..I know its "in the rules", but it was a generally accepted practice not  to do so...until now, with a couple of desperate GM's...

  3. i dont think it would make a big impact but if he cared more about the game and less about the money than he would stay with the wings because with their recent aquirment of hossa there already high chances of winning the cup have rose so i think he should stay and i wnat him to stay

  4. i dont know why people are getting mad at offer sheets. They are there to help improve your team. If you want to wait to sign a RFA past July 1 this is what could happen. All 30 teams have access to offer sheets. I got nothing wrong with it unless you make a stupid offer like 9million to vanek, but you get compensation for it anways. So its there to stay so we got to live with it.

  5. I like Filppula and wouldnt want him to leave.  On the other hand, if Vancouver offers him more than $2.6 per season, Detroit would get their 1st round pick.  The Nucks getting Filppula wont prevent Vancouver from being a bad team and I think they will get a high pick for next years draft.  I wouldnt mind seeing Detroit finally get an opportunity to draft in the top 10.

As for the question, Filppula leaving would have a bigger impact on Filppula, and not much of an impact on the Wings.  They have people who can fill his role.

Add:  The more I think about this, the more I like it.  Detroit will likely match anything that wouldnt get them a 1st round pick.  Like the article says, Vancouver will likely finish in the bottom of the league.  Could you imagine if the Wings got the 1st or 2nd overall pick out of this?  I realize its unlikely, but it would be great.  Im betting Gillis will offer him just under that though.  I dont think he would take the chance of losing his first round pick.

Add:  Filppula has just filed for arbitration, so he can no longer be tendered an offer sheet.

  6. i dont know so much on the Wings, but i definetely think it would have a huge impact on his career. if he stays in Detroit he gets to be mentoured and play, with great players. hes still a young kid. i hope he decides to stay.

  7. Filpulla is staying put in Detroit!!!  Smart move by a great player.  Who wouldn't want to play for the greatest hockey organization? Holland said he will have a contract late July early August.

  8. Lol how is he a scumbag?

get over it, its the gms fault he didn't extend the contracts b4 july 1st, and now gillis will offer him 4 mill. Detroit might match i heard but i dont no how

  9. Who cares, the Redwings have enough good players, they really don't need Fillpula

  10. He is a MUST sign.  They should just sign him to a one year deal, they will be able to offer more next year when Hossa is gone.  If it comes down to ditching Quincey and Chelios, then so be it.  Filppula is WAY better and young.  We all love Chelios, but his impact days are over.  The Wings also have plenty of young defenseman, they can afford to lose Quincey.  They also have Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart for 4 more years.  There won't be room for Quincey anyways.

All I have to say is GET IT DONE.  I think 2 to 2.5 million a year for 3 years is legitimate for what he has shown so far and what he could continue to be.  This will also help him stay motivated to improve and get more for the next contract.  In all reality he has played two full seasons.  The first he had 17 points, and second he had 36 points.  He really hasn't earned the $3 to $4 million contract yet, and we really don't know if he will turn out to be a 50-80 point scorer.

Sure this looks a little like the Dustin Penner offer, I wouldn't say the Vanek one, because Vanek was a 40 goal scorer.  Val hasn't matched the production of either of these players yet.  Gillis would be a FOOL to risk losing a top ten draft pick for Val Filppula.

  11. I don't think it make a huge impact on the Wings, but it would make an impact on his career. He would get the chance to stay with a great team who has a run for then cup every year, or he could move onto a bigger pay. I hope he stays. I think he has a Datsyuk-like style.

  12. I don't want to see him go but if another team takes him and the Wings get that team's First round pick next year, do you really think Ken Holland would hang onto that pick?? Haha - he would trade it away at the deadline for sure. He doesn't need top draft picks.

I think the Wings have a ton of talent in GR and below. If they would let these kids play more they would be stars. Look at Helm. He got a lot of experience in the playoffs so he should be in the NHL this season on the 4th line for sure. When Filppula and Hudler were called up for the first couple times they got no ice time and didn't prove anything until they were allowed to play regularly.

  13. personaly i believe this wouldnt hurt the wings to much. and granted you said we would have around 2.5 mill to sign him i believe that if holland wanted to get fillipia he would deffenatly sign him before chelli or quincey. esp chelli since he wants to play a smaller roll this yr. and he will settle for league minimum if he has too.
