After that join a free site, and practice, practice, practice. Do not play for money until you are winning more than you are losing with the free chips.

Here is a link to some sites where you can play for free and still maybe win some nice prizes or even some cash!

    Good luck at the tables!

  2. You have to know the basic hands of poker before you start.

Basically you need to make the best 5 card hand using a combination of any of the 5 community cards and your two hole cards. Ill explain in better detail but that is the basic idea...

    Anyway here it goes...

    1. Big blind and little blind post. Little blind is to the left of the dealer and big blind is to the left of little blind.

    2. Dealer deals out two cards to everybody face down. The player to the left of the big blind is first to start. The player may call, raise, or fold. Action continues till the pot is good.

    3. Dealer will discard 1 card(Know as burning the card) then place 3 cards face up (The Flop). These are part of the community cards. Betting starts with the little blind and continues in the same fashion as before.

    4. After betting the dealer will burn 1 a card again and place 1 card face up (The Turn) to add with the previous community cards.

    5. Betting happens again.

    6. After betting the dealer will burn a card again and place the last card (The River) to be placed with the community cards.

    7. A final round of betting happens.

    8. If there are still players after everybody has called, its time for the showdown. Using the best 5 of the 7 cards at your disposal (Your 2 hole cards plus the 5 community cards) you make the best 5 card poker hand you can. Best hand takes the pot.

Thats pretty much it. Oh and ill throw in one more thing...

In case of having a same hand the player with the highest card (The Kicker)

    For example...

    The community cards are

               As 3d 4c 8c 9h

    Your holding Ac Kh

The other player is holding Ad 7s

Both players have a pair of aces. But you would win the pot because your hand is Ac As Kh 9h 8c

The other players hand is Ad As 9h 8c7s

Your next highest card after your pair is a king while the opponets is a 9. Your kicker is higher so you take the pot...

Hope that wasnt too confusing and helps you get the baisc idea of hold em. Its a really fun game and the more you play the better you will be.

  3. Now that you know the guidelines of how to play and the order that the game goes in, lets take a little lesson on the different hands you can have.

From lowest to highest the order goes-

Card High(you have nothing except a high card)

    One Pair

    Two Pair

    Three of a kind

Straight( five cards of any kind in a row ex. 3 4 5 6 7, the higher it is the better)

Flush( any five cards of one suit)

Full House( three of one card and a pair of another ex. 5 5 5 3 3 )

    Four of a Kind

Straight Flush( 5 cards of the same suit in a row, ex. the 2 3 4 5 6 of spades)

    Royal Flush( the 5 Highest cards of a suit in a row, 10 J Q K A)

Meanwhile, a growing number of poker players are learning how to play Texas Holdem within the comforts of their own home. Basic texas holdem is popular because it is easy!

How To Play Basic Texas Holdem

Now according to the official poker rules a hand of basic Texas Holdem starts with two players left of the dealer putting in the blinds, which are referred to as forced bets.

        * There is a SMALL BLIND and a BIG BLIND. The big blind is usually twice as much the small blind.

        * The blinds are set at the beginning of the game. The PURPOSE for the blinds is to push the action.

        * Once you get few games under your belt, you will see without blinds, players would just muck their cards until they got the MONSTERS.

After two players put in their blinds, each player receives TWO HOLE CARDS face down.

        * Now, each player has the opportunity to CALL, RAISE, or FOLD.

        * The person sitting to the left of the big blind is "under the gun" and is the first to act. This is commonly referred to as early position.

        * If no one raises the pot, the last person to act is the player who put in the big blind. He has the option of either CHECKING or BETTING. If he bets then another round of betting begins.

How to Play Texas Holdem on the Flop

At the end of the round of betting, it is time to see the flop.

        * The dealer burns or discards the top card of the deck. This is common procedure for basic Texas Holdem to avoid cheating.

        * The dealer then turns over three cards face up on the table for every one to see. These are community cards that anybody involved in the hand can use in combination with their two hole to form a holdem hand.

        * Then another round of betting starts. The action will start to the immediate left of the dealer and move clockwise...with the person on the button (see Texas Holdem Terms) acting last in any round of betting.

How to Play Texas Holdem on the Turn

Once the second round of betting has ended, the dealer discards a second card and then places a FOURTH card on the table.

        * You will hear the term "turn" or "Fourth Street" in basic texas holdem used quite often. Once again, players place their bets.

        * Players can use this sixth card now to form the best five-card holdem hand.

How to Play Texas Holdem on the River

At last, the dealer burns or discards a third card and then places the final card on the "board" We call this round "Fifth Street" or the "river."

        * Players can now use any of the five cards on the table or the two cards in their pocket to form the best five-card holdem hand.

        * A final round of action begins.

        * Subsequently, all of the players remaining in the game begin to show their pocket cards. This starts with the player to the left of the last player to call. It is called the showdown. Players use a combination of their pocket cards and the cards on the board to form the best texas holdem hand.

        * The player who shows the best holdem hand wins! There are instances where players with equal hands in value will share or split the pot. Both players will get 50% of the pot and the next round of basic texas holdem will begin.
