Ok, so I got duped into downloading a free Adware/Spyware program and now I can't get rid of it. The name of it is Antivirus XP 2008.

It wont let me uninstall it, nor can it be deleted through the "Add or Remove Programs." The only thing it does is take me to the website and want me to buy it.

Obviously, I don't want it. What I do want is to delete it off my computer.

Does anyone out there have any ideas that will help me?

  1. That is a bad spyware infection that is going around like nobody's business; you have to use several utilities to get it off such as SuperAntiSPyware and paid programs like Kaspersky, etc. It may be easier to backup and restore if you don't have much on there.

  2. Sounds to me that the program is loading with windows at startup. Restart the computer and boot into safe mode. Try to remove it through add/remove programs. If that doesn't seem to work, go with a program called "Spybot search and Destroy." This will help turn off processes running from the program and should help you remove it from there. If you should still have the problem, email me as I can help you with the rest.

  3. Try http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-...  The program you need to download (the link is on that page) appears to be free.

  4. Tech forum discussion on this issue. Some posters claim to have removed this program.

    Good luck.
