Just simply incorporate you business. You can do that for about $130.

Technically something is copyrighted as soon as it is created: no formal process is required to affix copyright to an author. It's not like a patent that way, where you ahev to register it before it is legally yours. With copyright, assuming company names fall under the category of things that can be copyrighted, the copyright is yours wether you register it or not.

There are advantages to registering with the US copyright office (go through them and them alone!). Their website is here:

They wil give you all the information about registering a copyright, how much it costs, etc...

If you are Canadian the laws may be diffferent (though they are I believe fundamentally the same ie: you have copyright even if you don't register), and their website is here:

Basically the only question now is "Can a company name be copyrighted without registration", and well... I'm not sure. I took a brief look at the Copyright Basics document form the US site which you can find here

But I haven't read in enough detail to be able to give you a definite answer. Your best bet: read the copyright basics in full (you should know this stuff anyway to amke sure you don't inadvertantly violate someone's copyright!), and if that still doesn't give you your answer, post in the law section on Y! Answers if company names can be copyrighted, or call the Copyright office, or call up a lawyer friend and ask them (that's probably the fastest!).
