  1. Hi.  Coach Dave here.  Go to my website and check out the section on positioning for a 6-2.  There are many variations of this.  We use a 4-person serve reception so to keep it easy, we have the setter and the person directly in front of them move to the net and allow the other 4 to do the passing.

Like I said, there are many variations but this should show you the basics.

  2. In running a 6-2, the setters are opposite one another and whichever is back row is the one who is setting. Rotation one, Setter 1 serves, then in serve recieve setter 1 will be coming from the right side and just behind the rightmost passer(an outside hitter). rotation two for serving the setter can start at right back, for serve recieve the setter should be stacked at the net. Setter 2 should be between setter 1 and the net. For rotation 3 when serving,  setter 1 should be switching at the middle of the backcourt with an outside hitter from the left to the right. In serve recieve, setter 1 will stack with the middle blocker at the left side of the net. Setter 1 has to be farther from the net than the middle and can go as far to the right as the closest outside hitter. In rotation 4, setter 1 is now front row and acting as the opposite. when serving setter 1 will switch from the left side of the middle blocker to right front. In rot 4 serve recieve setter 1 will pass on the left, then switch to the right front after the ball has passed over the net. In rot 5, setter 1 will once again cross from the left side of the middle blocker to the right front. In rotation 5 serve recieve, setter 1 will start at middle front closer to the net than setter 2. In rotation 6, setter 1 will start at right front when serving. In serve recieve, setter 1 will pass on the right . Setter 2 does the same rotations but is at rotation 4 when setter 1 is at rotation 1. Make a chart.

  3. The 6-2 means that there are two setters. They always stay opposite from each other and the one that is in the back row is always the setter. If they are in the number 5 position then they stand right behind the girl in position 4 and switch places. if they are in the number 6 position then they switch places with the girl in the number 3 position. If they are in the number 1 position they serve and then run to the front row. Hope this helps!
