Basketball is a very minor sport here.  The sports you play at a very high level of interest in America - that is, American Football (which involves very little use of feet controlling the ball and much more carrying it around, unlike real football which actually uses feet on the ball), baseball, basketball, and hockey - are only major sports in the US.

I've never seen a basketball match on television here.  I'm aware that there are leagues and stuff like that, but they don't gather much interest.

it is played over here, there is pro and amateur leagues but it doesn't get much press or tv coverage and is mainly a minority sport.

What up Yea,

I had a friend several years back who played in a league in the U.K. so i know professionally there are some places i'm sure where people play basketball.  I'm assuming "football/soccer" is the most popular sport- and other sports like rugby-- but i'm sure there are places where you can play basketball.
