after replacing blown engine i lost my license. let truck sit starting it now and then. soon after would not start. replaced ignition coil, plugs wires, cap, rotor, pick up coil. still did not start. so took it to dodge and had computer replaced. now it runs but hesitates. idles at 1000 rpm then drops and back to 1000 rpm for a few minutes then dies. seems too do this when gas is about 1/4 of a tank. not as much when full. thinking maybe fuel pump. but i don't know. timing maybe?? need help. advice appreciated. thanks for reading.

  1. the one thing you need to do before you replace anything else on it is run a fuel pump pressure check on it to verify that it is getting the right  amount of pressure to it,to me from what you have described sounds like a pump going bad or a relay breaking down on it,either one will cause low fuel pressure and cause it to run like that, and it might be a good idea to have it scanned again ,a bad throttle position sensor will also cause this too happen,i know they did this when they installed the computer but something else could have went wrong with it from that time, you may wind up dropping the tank and replacing the pump and the filter on it,good luck.

  2. I would say fuel  filter. is getting clogged.  I would also clean  the Throttle Body and clean  the Idle air controller. Beings you let the engine set if may have gotten  some build up  somewhere in the fuel system  too.

so I would clean  the TB and the IAC and run  a good fuel cleaner though it. then if it still does it. then I would look at the fuel filter.

dodge dakota dont have a mass air flow sensor.

  3. mabey your fuel filter or your maf sensor if the check engine light comes on then just take it to auto zone or buy an obd detector and plug it in and get the codes it should tell you exactly what is rong
