  1. First answere is a moron. The LS/VTEC swap is actually more reliable and powerful WHEN DONE CORRECTLY than a regular GSR or B16 motor. The problem lies when people start shortcutting things and using junkyard parts to do the conversion. Like for instance you need a GSR water pump because the LS has a 19 tooth pump and the GSR has 22 teeth for better cooling since the LS block was meant for lower RPMs than the GSR VTEC motor. Then you need to get the actual dowel pins that reduce the size instead of drilling them out to accept the factory pins. Then you will need to tap a oil orriface and plug it with a flat allen plug on the head to ensure no oil leaks because even the head gaskets made for this swap don't do a very good job of preventing this. Now you will need the aforementioned head gasket, the head AND block need to be machined and planed for a perfect fitment with no warpage to either. Then you need a Golden Eagle LS/VTEC conversion kit with the oil lines and other necessary parts. You may also consider getting new pistons and rods also since the block will need to be dissasembled for the machining. Now to ECU will need to be changed, depending on whether the B18 is OBD1 or OBD2 will determine the correct ECU for your application. The people that DO NOT follow this are the ones that have problems. I currently have a 99 Civic coupe that has full interior, full stereo, Power steering, Power brakes and drive it daily with a JG Engine dynamics bottom end (B18A2) and a B16 head from a 95 SIR. It puts down 407 HP at 15 PSI, and 608 HP at 25 PSI with a Peakboost turbo kit and AEM EMS. It has run a best time of 9.87 @ 139 MPH in the 1/4 mile and it is fully street legal, gets 22-26 MPG and is driven DAILY.

  2. na, ls vtech is not reliable. It was not meant to be. Even if you get it profecionally done, there is no way it's going to last with everyday use. you want your car to run, so get something that is going to last, yeah i know less power but hey at least the car runs.
