  1. Study the culture, check with authorities for required dox.

  2. Before anything else, you need to determine if you even qualify to immigrate. We use a points system to determine eligibility so please look through http://www.cic.gc.ca to see how you fare.

Please note, too, that Canada is currently dealing with about 980,000 applications from prospective immigrants so don't expect the process to be quick because it won't. It will take anywhere from 4-6 years, cost quite a bit of money in processing fees - not to mention all the paperwork involved.

  3. Like everyone else has said go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/ just to make sure which visa you'll need first. I actually sent in for my permanent residency about a few weeks ago. It's A LOT of paper work and my application processing fee was 550 dollars and since I'm married, my husband's (my sponsor) cost 75 dollars. That didn't include the 150 dollars for an appointment with an immigration doctor, and the 45 dollars for all the passport photos needed, and also the money that you need to send in to get an FBI check done. Also I had to pay 231 dollars at the hospital to get a blood test done required by immigration for the doctor's report. So it's definitely not cheap. Keep in mind, my application is an "in Canada" application which means I applied while I was in Canada. Thinks might be slightly different in your case. Make a few calls to immigration and find out what you need and how to get started. In most cases they'll send you all the paper work you need.

  4. Research the city and province you will be moving to... a few search terms on Google and Wikipedia should be a good start as all areas have local "isms" and customs.  Searching the net on Canadians would be good as well, contrary to many beliefs, we do differ from our neighbours to the south (i.e. very tolerant of differences, use of proper etiquette - I can't tell you how every time I have a group lunch or dinner in Houston, someone always blows their nose at the dinner table, even using the cloth napkin).

If you haven't done so already, ensure you have met all requirements for immigrating:  http://www.cic.gc.ca/

  5. this is the Canadian immigration site,it will show you the process and how you qualify to move to Canada
