  1. The ASVAB is a joke. Don't worry about.

  2. the best thing to do is get practice tests and don't go on with anything less then a 55 I was in the Navy and believe me the higher the score the better

  3. Studying takes discipline. You have to want to learn, not just look like you're learning.

For the math, you probably just need to learn the order of operations and to brush up on fractions.

If you keep trying your best you might still get into the Navy on a 'waiver'. That's when they bend the rules to let you in and they do it when they need people.

  4. First, don't be discouraged by a first shot at the ASVAB, you'll do better next time. Place that in your head right now. Your initial score isn't that bad, trust me. You will do better than 35 on your next attempt.

Second, relax. You are far too tense for your own good. Use a ten minute meditation. Sounds silly, but it reduces combat stress like you wouldn't believe, and it's easy as pie.

Sit in a darkened room that is quiet. Sit for ten minutes in your most relaxed position, preferably upright in a chair with your head supported and feet on the ground. Take your shoes off and loosen your belt or pants. Sit quietly and repeat one word, or simple phrase, say it quietly in your head over and over. Do this for about ten minutes, it can be shorter and still be very effective. After repeating the word for ten minutes, sit quietly for about two more minutes, try not to think about anything at all. Then slowly open your eyes over about thirty seconds, count it internally.

Don't expect miracles from it, but continue to do it, it really works for all kinds of stress.

Third, the ASVAB prep book you got is good. Relax and try to study, don't burn yourself out. Do a little bit at a time until it sinks in. It takes a while. Einstein had a math teacher his whole professional career as a physicist.

Fourth, go to a high school math department, or call one, ask about math tutoring and your budget and tell them why your seeking help. Many teachers, or teachers assistants are looking for some side work, even if it's only a couple extra bucks. They may even take pity on you, the good kind of pity, and want to help you achieve such a worthy goal.

1,2,3,4... don't skip 2, it's important to relax and settle down before you tackle anything of importance. Focus is essential to accomplish anything the right way.

    Good luck!!!

  5. Sounds like you stressed yourself out, relax and retake it, but first study some make sure you concentrate on math the Navy and Air Force are highly Technical and math can make a big diff in the MOS / AFSC you can qualify for.

  6. Well then, don't give up until you score a 35 or higher. Maybe you were just nervous. If you don't know how to study now, don't bother joining the Navy. The Air Force and the Navy require you study and take tests all the time. So, go get a tutor if you want to learn to study. Does price really matter when you are hoping for a job in the military? Go get a tutor or take a college class on "college success".

If you want it bad enough, you won't give up and you won't accept short cuts.

  7. When you go take the actual ASVAB it is easier than the pretests. You take it to see potential for a job. When i took the ASVAB i scored a 67. I got AECF as my job for now(in the navy by the way). I am training with some people that used to train with seals. I am taking my PST soon and if i get a spot on then i wont have that job. Dont sweat it. When you study, you have to LEARN to do the things  that you dont already. Math for instance, learn to solve the problems. Google search ASVAB oractice tests and take them. Good Luck
