  1. Yep you pretty much are, it skips generations. But its not 100% you will, i have twins on my side and my partner on his and it skipped our parents and we are now due for our first in October and we are only having one.

  2. i heard that twins come every other generation. so i'd say yes.

  3. Sorry, but I feel none of the other answers are quite there yet...

I've done alot of research on twins.  My mom is an identical twin and I have fraternal twin girls.

First - Identical twins are freaks of nature, no rhyme or reason as to why they happen.  Having identical twins isn't inherited and doesn't guarantee that their kids or grandkids will have twins.  Every single person has the exact same chances of having identical twins as anyone else.

Fraternal twins run in families.  If the grandparents had fraternal twins then EVERYONE who is blood related to them technically has an increased chance of having fraternal twins somewhere in their family line.  People of African, Asian and Caucasian decent have an increased chance of having twins over Hispanics.  Women who have large stature (overweight and/or tall) have a higher chance of carrying twins because their bodies can handle the load.  Also, being just off birth control and trying to conceive gives you a high chance of having fraternals because your hormones are out of whack still.  I even read an article that made sense about women who drink more milk are more prone to having fraternals because the hormones they give cows to produce more milk has the same type of effect on the human body: more hormones to drop more eggs.  Very interesting!

So, I have 10 month old fraternal twins.  People ask, "Do twins run in your family?"  And the easy answer is, yes because my mom is a twin.  But she's an identical twin - a freak of nature.  So because she is a twin had no bearing on the fact that any of her kids would have twins.  But because MY twins are fraternal, then my kids have an increased chance of having fraternals. My female siblings could also have an increased chance of having fraternals.

And to get super crazy - my husband's great great grandmother was a twin.  But, depending on the KIND of twins (frat or id) would determine if my husband's family would have any heredity towards having twins.  But just because there are twins in HIS family doesn't mean that because I am married to him that I will have twins.  If he does carry a gene that produces twins, that gene will not give anyone twins until his own daughters have children.  Super crazy, right?

And having fraternal twins doesn't necessarily skip a generation.  That's just a fluke. So, my fraternal twins are the start of the family line of 'more prone to having fraternal twins' but if my twins were identical, no one in our family would be more prone to having twins.

  4. You have the chance to have twins. Generally its the fathers side that decides the twin factor just like they are the gender factor as well. But I suppose having twins on both sides increases the chances of you having twins. Identical twins (paternal) are from the father, one egg splits. Nonidentical (maternal) are from the mother, 2 eggs were ovulated and fertilized. Hope that helped

  5. Not an exact science. It's possible.

  6. Yes...but it doesn't guarantee that you or anyone in your generation will have them.  My grandma was a triplet...2 generations before that there were triplets...they also have a lot of twins in the same generations but my 2 siblings, 30 cousins & I have a lot of kids between us...but no triplets & only one set of twins.  My dad used to always tell us that we could have triplets to scare us from getting pregnant.

  7. could be. They say it skips a generation but it all depends on whether or not you realease more than one egg, or if your one egg splits into two embryos. There is no sure fire way to determine this until you get pregnant. (or seek genetic counseling) The one that might have the twins of your generation is your cousins. Never know.

  8. Yup. It skips a generation!

  9. I have heard that twins skip a generation, but there is never a 100% chance for you, but your chances will be higher.
