with a white mustache and hair and dressed all in white laying on his bed......im sure he was making it up.....when i mentioned to him this morning ....he said thanks mom i forgot about it till now...now im thinking about it again......do you think maybe hes fibbing? If i saw that i would have crapped in my pants.....he dosent seem to be scared today but gets almost a panic look on face when talking about it

as someone above said, it is best to forget all about it.

on the other hand, if the episode reappears, you should turn from 'mom' into 'friend' and find all about it. crazy or not, this type of things could be somewhat 'real' and you have to decide whether to lead him into believing 'he's just imagining things' or treat it like it's serious and, together, 'find a cure'.

i recall an episode from 'the dresden files'. a kid just like yours, someone in his room, desperate mom thinking his son is losing it; they invite mr. wizard, who draws a symbol as a 'protection shield spell', kid's happy, no more sightings of strange people around.

aw, yes... the boogey man in that story was real, actually...

So have you ever asked if anyone that looks like that ever lived there.  Does it sound like any of your relatives that have passed on. It sounds like a haunting to me.  You can do something to help him or let him grow up not believing in ghosts and thinking that he is crazy.   Find a psychic and get it checked out.  No matter what other people say, ghosts are real and people see them all the time. Children put things out of there mind if they can not deal with it,  it's a self protection thing the mind does.  Kind of a safety net.

Is there any reason to be afraid?  If he brings the issue up again, tell him to ask the man what he wants.  Talk to him.  Many people are afraid of things that they think they see until they address them directly and really look at what's there.  It may be nothing but an optical illusion, but if you can assure your son that there is nothing to be afraid of, you may find that he will resolve this issue all on his own.

I'm guessing that he's afraid that it's a ghost.  Spirits aren't anything to be afraid of. Assure him of that and let him know that you'll be around if he needs you.  Don't make a big deal out of it.  Just address it as common-place. Good luck!

Well, as a medium, I'm inclined to believe him. I agree with the person who suggested you wait on it a bit and see if it happens again, then talk to him a bit to decide if it's real or just imagined.

You know what, my son gets freaked out over what he calls the "brown man" in his closet.  No, this isn't a racist joke, nor do I think my kid is a racist - I'm reasonably certain he once saw my brown leather coat which hangs in his closet.  I've since removed it but it stuck with him.

He still gets *really* freaked out about it.

Look at it this way - at least your kid has a good imagination.  Some kids don't.  Assure him that there is absolutely nobody in his room, and make him go to bed.  He'll sleep eventually.  And also, don't ever bring it up again unless he does.

had your son already been asleep and awoke? or did he just refuse to go to bed before sleeping? Do you watch shows such as Hauntings? If you do, is your son allowed to watch these shows with you? Its really not a good idea to allow younger children to watch Haunting shows or violent shows as well. Kids have a hard time seeing the difference between reality and show biz. If he is able to watch these shows with you or while your not there, stopit. Set the channel locks and record these programs so you can watch them at a leter time when he is asleep or somewhere else. I am not saying this is what happened, but this could lead to a child seeing something that really isnt there, imagination running wild so to speak.

He probably gets a panic look on it because he knows he made it up and he doesn't want to get in trouble! Kids have great imaginations. He probably did think he saw this man at first, since kids do have vivid imaginations and certainly have the capacity to imagine shapes, monsters, people, etc., based on things seen in the dark. But he's old enough to figure out that he was just seeing things.

When I was his age I thought there was a man under my bed who would grab my feet.  I jumped into bed from a distance for years.  In other words, all kids have boogey men.

It is either his imagination or he is having episodes of sleep paralysis. I started having sleep paralysis episodes at the age of 9 and had them until I was about 28.

One of the common hallucinations is a man or creature standing over you, or sitting on your chest. It is usually very scary. They say about 1 in 4 people experience a sleep paralysis episode at least once in thier lives. He might have had one.

If this is the case, you should talk to him about it in case he has more.

well when he comes to you with this statement, if you have a digital camera, start snapping pictures.  and do it all over the room, you might catch it on the camera if it's there.  Sometimes, children see these things because they don't know that they aren't supposed to-they aren't jaded by life yet, so they are pure and can see them.
