  1. I agree.  A dress is very personal.  What kind of person is your mom?  What does she normally wear?

I mean often brides have a vow renewal to "make up" for something they lost at their wedding.  Like a big poofy dress b/c they had a courthouse wedding before.  Or if your mother is a bit of a hippie flower child, she'd want something simple.  If she's nontraditional or older, she may not want to wear white at all.  I know my mother wouldn't--not after having kids already.

What kind of ceremony are you guys planning?  Simple and informal, on a beach, formal?  Will your dad be in a tux?  There are a lot of details lacking here.

What style of dresses are in your mother's closet?  Try to go for something along those lines.  A simple gown like this will be the easiest for last minute fittings.

She may want to cover up her arms a bit

Or something more simplistic that she could wear again

Those sites both have TONS of ideas for you though.  Don't forget to look for Bridesmaids gowns in champagne or ivory as well.  Often those are much better prices than a Brides gown.

  2. Not to rain on your parade or anything, but a vow renewal is something very personal and should be done by the couple.  Not for the couple--and this is one of the reasons.  Also, it  seems terribly pushy.  Your heart is definitely in the right place, though.  We should all be so lucky to have daughters who love us so much.

My advice to you is to tell your mother of your plans and include her on picking out a dress.  She'll really appreciate it.  Even if you want to fund the renewal, she should still be involved.

    Good luck!
