..but I barely do work. But, this year, I want all A's on my report card. When I was in elementary, I used to all A's, but highschool is harder. Probably, beacuse I have AP classes and Honors classes..I procrastinate TOOOOOO much. Any tips to help me get alll A'S THIS YR.??

  1. Try hard NOT to slack.  I myself was in IB.  If you want all A's this year, you seriously have to put up the effort in it.  Know you're capabilities.  I'm not saying lock yourself in your room and hit the books till your eyes bleed.  When you have homework or projects do it immediately, don't waste time or else you'll be pulling all nighters and sweating because if you don't keep your grades up in IB, you'll be on probation.  And also, do your work neatly!

  2. Write out your goals.  You want all A's.  So write down what you need to achieve those A's i.e. participate in class discussions, turn in well-done homework and study for tests.

Every time you have a choice of studying versus having fun THINK about what will give you the most value for your time.  Should you go out and have fun?  Absolutely.  But life is all about balance.  Balance your future goals against your present wants.

Next, write down what you want to do that will depend on getting those A's.  Do you want to go to college?  Have you looked at what scholarships are available for high GPA?  If so, make getting scholarships the ultimate goal.  It will be like you are being paid to study!

Why slack off? If you plan to go to college/ a good university your chances could become very slim with horrible grades. Get your self back together.

  4. Well, apparently you already know what your problem is ("but I barely do work", "I procrastinate TOOOOOO much."), so do the opposite. Thanks for the points.

  5. There's no magic - plan on not spending much time on anything but studying.  If you hit a snag see the teacher for extra help.  If you need tutoring, speak to your parents about getting it.  You'll be known as a nerd, a bookworm or whatever the current term is, but other than drilling a hole in your mind and pouring the knowledge in, getting serious is the only way.  (Look at it this way - you can be miserable for one year, or you can be miserable for the rest of your life - which is better?)

  6. Think about the fact that graduation is right around the corner and you don't want to get this far and s***w up.  The work is just going to get more challenging and if you go to college the whole way of learning is going to be even more challenging because they will expect more from you than just memorization and repetition.

Your issue requires a mentality change.  It's not about getting an A or passing a test, think of it as building your future.  The more education you get while you are young and have less responsibilities, the less you will have to worry about once you graduate.  I made the fatal mistake of just breezing through HS taking all the easy classes, etc just to pass.  Well when it came to going back to college in my older years...the fact I skipped Algebra is killing me.  I can barely remember how to do basic math, never mind mixing numbers and letters.  Had I just completed that work while in school, it would have been behind me forever.

Believe me when I say you will regret being a slacker and it gets doubly harder as you get older.  Sacrifice NOW for a brighter FUTURE because those years are going to fly by so fast and you will thank yourself for working hard.

Lastly, don't beat yourself up so bad if you don't get straight A's.  STrive for it, but if the pressure is going to kill you more than just getting a B, then take the B and be happy.

Remember, if you plan to go to college....this challenge only intensifies because they will not force you or hold your hand to get your degree.  You have to discover your own self-motivation.  What is your motivation for getting the A's?  If it's not strong enough to carry you through graduation, you need to find something more motivating to keep you fueled through graduation.
