ok incase i do get mice, I was wondering if males were supposed to be kept in groups? I read mice were, but i read males fight and no sites ever specificly said if males should be in same s*x pairs. everytime i read they should be kept in pairs it said males fighted right after that.

so if i get male mice, should I get a pair? (from the same litter, of course) but i read that could still be a problem so what do you think?

  1. I've read that male mice should never be put together they will fight over everything. If you want to keep a pair of mice get females. (That's what I did )

  2. Mice are very social animals. It is unatural for them to ever live alone. Forcing social animals to live alone creates a "lack" in thier requirements, and they don't live as long lives as they would with other mice.

The reason most people avoid keeping males together is bacause they are strongly territorial.  Have a look at the size of the usual mouse cage. It's really tiny! Even for just two males, they would be cramped because males generally need more room than females.

I have successfully kept males in the past together. But I tended to use really large cages (for mice at least). My favourite was a platic guinea pig cage. I also ensures there were at least two wheels, bottles, and several hiding places and chew toys. My males lives very happily there, and while they did fight occasionally, their fights were no more severe than those females have.

As for your dream, I believe that dreams are just meaningless subconcious images played in our mind while it is resting, like when we sleep. If you have the dilema of deciding between one or two mice, and maybe you are thinking of playing it safe and just getting one, your brain sort of "plays it back" to you in your sleep.

Oh, and please do not put a male and female together! That would just be silly, lol!

  3. That isn't nessescarily true. I have had eight mice. At one point, I had three males living together happily (Jared, Austin, and Camen), but then Camen died, so now it is just the two. Also I have (Sage jr and Russell) together. They are not even litter mates, and they get along perfectly. The key is getting them at a young age, perferably litter mates.

I know I said my two mice Austin and Jared live together, but they have recently had a fallen out. Jared is the alphamale, and seeing as Austin is mature now, he is starting to bite Austin to prove his dominance. They stilll are caged together, I just have to keep an eye on them and pull them apart when Jared attacks. I iscolate him in a carrier for an hour every time he bites.

Be careful, male mice can fight to the death, so you have to do it right. Same with females. Females fight too I am sure, just not as much.

I also have an over sexed super male, Camen jr. We were trying to replace Camen's presence in the cage with him, but he turned out that he couldn't live peacefully with them. He was always biting them, and me. So he is in a cage by himself.

  4. People say male mice shouldn't be together.

I have two brothers who have been together since birth, and love each other's company. They never fight, and are so sweet with each other.

If I had gone with what I was advised to do - and separate them into there own cages, it would be both costly and space consuming, but also ruin their wee friendship.

So, as long as both are purchased at the same time, I see no harm in keeping two male mice together - but only without females. If females are introduced, they guys will turn on into lady mode, and fight over the girl.

But girl mice really do well together, especially in groups of three or four. I have five girl mice, only two of which were bought from the same pet store at the same time.

  5. my brother has 2 male mice from the same litter and they love each other, they've never fought and they are so sweet!

  6. Mice are like any other animals. Dont put to male mice together because they'll fight for dominace untill one's death. Just put one female and one male mouse. Then they'll multiply by them selfs.

    I hoped it healped!!!

  7. i'd suggest if you were going to get two to get two females just because its easier, you'll more likely get away with two males if they are from the same litter they will probably fight a bit but it won't be too serious, to be honest the females will have the odd scrap too...sometime mice like people just take a disliking to one and other....i do warn you though make sure you get the same s*x or you'll have a sudden increase!!!
