  1. Supporting boxing...seems to me to be all about "believing what you want to believe"..

    it is futile to even discuss it.

    My prediction is (if the last 10 years are anything to go by)

    Joe will win. Roy Jones Jnr will be called old and rubbish and Joe will be castigated...for simply winning by outboxing him.

  2. It's decision and yes, I say Joe would win.

    Now that the UFC is on the map boxing continues to drag the has-beens out of retirement to try and attract an audience and make a dollar.  They make for boring fights.

    Oscar, Roy, Shane and rest need to admit they're old and prep some new talent.

  3. I think he would beat jones and make it look easy and probably have fun in there doing it. He should take the fight just for another name on the resume he needs it bad. Jones is washed up now he only looked good against trinidad because trinidad hadnt fought in like 2-3 years and was fighting at a weight class he has no buisness in. His fights with Tarver and Glen Johnson proved how little roy really has left at this stage. He still has and is capable of small flashes/moments in the ring where he can look like he used  to look 5+ years ago but they dont last very long. I do think Pavlik would be a much better challenge for Calzaghe.

  4. Lets be real about Joe people. The reason he won the fight because of a lot of pitty pat flurries. He never hurt B-hop. B-hop was off balance, no stamina and thought he was going to coast to a win. Roy jones last fight with Tito prove's some things. He sitll has speed, power in both hands, good stamina. Still a good counter puncher and can fight on the ropes. The guys still in good shape. Roy see how soft Joe is. Roy was looking at the fight from the outside of the ring. Roy want this fight. It's going to be good. Dont forget, Roy beat B-hop in his prime. I tell you one thing, Joe better do better than what he did. I seen girl boxing fight better than what Joe vs B-hop did.

  5. Roy Jones Jr. would dominate this fight. If your a boxing fan like me and you've been keeping up with Roy you have also noticed how great he looks right now. HIs knockout win over the young undefeated up and coming Anthony Hanshaw.

    His total domination of Tito Trinidad(who also looked excellent but should not have fought at that weight).

    Jones' hands are faster than Calzaghe's and he is way quicker on his feet than Calzaghe. Roy hits harder than Calzaghe and has better ring generalship than Calzaghe. Roy Jones would win this fight and possibly by KO looking at the style match-up. Roy is a Jedi Master when it comes to counter punching and Calzaghe comes in head first chin up and throws punches in bunches. Roy's quick left hook or uppercut would make this a tragic night for Calzaghe fans. They would definitely get a flashback of another englishman who fought one of our fast, stinging, dancing, counter punching jedi masters in Mayweather vs Hatton.

  6. If you watched last night, it was clear Joe relied on superior handspeed - and that was basically all.  There are 3 very clear reason why Joe Calzaghe will not beat Roy Jones:

    1. Roy's hands are still faster, and he throws them with more power and variety than Calzaghe;

    2. Bernard Hopkins dropped Calzaghe by landing a shot between one of Joe's "flurries" - Roy hits a lot harder than Hopkins, and throws more than just one punch when countering (not just a right hand, he throws uppercuts, left hooks, the works);

    3. Calzaghe can't hurt Roy, he walked down Felix Trinidad, Calzaghe may be a natural 168 pounder, but his doesn't hit as hard as Tito.

    There will be a lot of analyzing, arguing, comparing records and wins, opponents, etc. - but this won't change; Roy is bigger, stronger, faster, quicker, and more skilled.  This won't be the blood-letting it would have been 10 years ago, but Roy will beat him, and I'd bet that after Roy catches him hard in between on of his slapping flurries early, it will be by a large margin.

    Roy is not the same fighter he was prior to his move to heavyweight, but he is also not the same fighter he was 4 years ago.  Physically he has adjusted and recovered, and looks like he would have at 39 had he not move up and down so drastically.

  7. i think joe would win alright but two of his last three fights have shown that he is beggining to ebb a little..also in their primes joe would have won so stop the excuses already the fight isnt even on yet.. there is a hint of the hopkins cop out me thinks

  8. there has already been discussions for a calzaghe vs. jones jr. fight one november 15th in wales. If u remember after the tito and roy fight. Jones jr. said he would go to wales to fight calzaghe.

    I think calzaghe would win. It would be interesting fight. jones use to have great defence he was untouchable. Now is defence is very simple so calzaghe could break that but i dunno if he would hurt him. Joe throws more punches and i believe joe is faster so i think Calzaghe would get a split decison.

    I want joe to go 50 wins with no losses and then retire he would be the only man to have a better record than Marciano.

    he needs to fight

    pavlik

    jones

    Trinidad

    Tarver

    Dawson

  9. Being realistic,  I don't think Joe will seriously hurt Roy.  However, Roy has lost something between the muscle loss from coming down from the Ruiz fight.  It wasn't so much age though that has to have some effect as well.

    I don't think Roy has the power he once had and I dont think he has that extra special  "Whatever" that other fighters just didn't have.  Roy has lost a lot of steam.

    There is no doubt in my mind that Prime Roy would have won.  I wish that fight would have happened but I don't blame Roy for not going to the UK to do it.

    1. He was champ at the time and     2. They just aren't good to US athletes there.  Remember when Marvin Hagler got pelted with beer bottles when he beat Alan Minter.  That doesn't happen in the US when UK fighters come here.

    Im glad Joe came to the US to fight Bernard.  I wish he would have been willing to do the same with Roy.   Roy missed out on two potential career defining fights because of the problems between the US and UK when it comes to fans.   Darius Mikuczeski (sp) wouldn't come to the US either despite the fact that Roy was champ.

    Roy is past his prime now.   IF they fight I predict Calzaghe by decision.  He will be too busy for today's version of Roy Jones.
