If you are really getting a 1098, you would not be asking a question like this.

You dont even think about common sense when buying a 1098.

It's a 1098. If you've got $39, 950 US lying around go for the 1098R, it's faster. It's actually a 1200cc.

I'm also aging, and don't enjoy being folded up

the way those bikes require.

You get there more reliably by riding

'long` than you do 'fast`.

thats the fastest bike of its kind and my dad has a ducati monster s2r 1000 and its a great bike so i would say its an even better bike cause they race with it sept for it might not be all that confortable since the bars are low but what sport bikes isnt lol but i think it would be a very nice bike if you can handle all the power of it but if you cant and you just want it for show i would say its a waste of money.
