So, I have a family member living with me and when I got home yesterday evening the front door is wide open and the air conditioner running at full throttle. I reprimand the family member and she replies, " how is the door being open any different than having the curtains open in front of the patio doors? I was floored by the stupidity, especially since she is 60 years old. I said "duh, the curtains being open don't allow the cool air to escape." We work opposite shifts so she and I are rarely here together but based on the energy bills, she is apparently doing this quite often. Where can I find straight forward info about energy conservation that she will understand? I want something that explains the cost effects of leaving a door or window open.

  1. She's obviously pretty rude and won't understand it anyways but make her pay more and she will figure it out!

  2. find a way to create an error in the air conditioning, then being older she won't bother using it, and will have the door open anyway getting the same effect!

I know that's harsh but I guarantee she will not stop using the air conditioner incorrectly

  3. well sounds like she is just trying your patience,or is forgetful ..or just stupid ..put a sign on the door..Door left open  $20.00  dollar fine......Door closed  $0 dollar fine

  4. Wow this sounds really opposite of most older americans, I still remember my grandma saying not to let out the bought air.  Here's what I would do take her by the hand put her hand over the AC vent let her feel the moving air and tell her this is expensive air we don't let it out of the house.  If you cannot live in my house by my rules...you get the pictur.
