  1. I've had 4 of my teeth taken out and having another 4 out next month if you an opionion from my point of view then i'm saying go with your dentist taking them out after having the novacaian. I think you'll only have about 2-3 needles.

The needles can hurt slighty but thats only if you feel them really. I only felt one last time and that was a needle in the roof of my mouth. But once you've had the needles your dentist will give you time for the novacain to take place so when he removes the teeth you won't feel it. But while your having the needle you could listen to really loud music and shut your eyes and its most likely you won't feel it.

If you don't go with that though i would say the iv in hand my friend had an op on her gum and she had the iv in her hand rather than the gas. I think the the iv would work better than the gas.

don't get to nervous because once its over you'll feel glad you did it. Trust me i know. ;D plus if you have the novacain when you get home poke you mouth GENTLY with a pencil or something and you won't feel it lol. My dentist told me not to but it was cool ;D

Good Luck with whatever you chose to do

  2. I'm sorry that you have to undergo this type of procedure, my experience with extractions is that although local anethetic is somewhat uncomfortable in the area you mentioned it does not affect your whole body as would general anethetic.  The first injection may be painful but the pain subsides immediately once the anesthetic takes effect.  I would suggest the gas and a little topical anesthetic prior to the injection to ease the pain, the extractions are fairly quick, once the anesthetic wears off there may be discomfort but it will be the same discomfort you feel if you had them removed while under general anesthetic, the only difference is you won't feel groggy afterwords.

  3. You may want to check with your health insurance before talking with your dentist to see if teeth extraction in the hospital is covered.  Most insurance companies won't cover this since it can be done in the office.

The pain from a tooth extraction isn't 'excruciating'.  The dentist will give you the Novocaine and wait ten minutes to let it work.  Once the Novocaine has started working, the only sensation you feel is a little pulling as the dentist is working.  It's best to just get this over with.  It sounds like you have quite an infection and those teeth need to come out sooner rather than later.  Good luck.
