  1.   Most life insurance policies need to be paid on a monthly. semi annually, or annual basis.  You don't simply take out a policy and not continue to pay for it.

If there was a policy taken out by your dad, there must be check stubs to show who, what, when, where, and how much.

If the policy was simply an army policy and it was still in force, you should check with the VA, and they will steer you in the right direction !

  2. You need to find the policy he had it might not even had been through the military and he would have had to pay on it till he past its not a free benefit

  3. If your father passed away when he was still in the military then his life insurance would have gone to who he listed it to go to.  If was you then it would have been paid into a trust for you.  Your mother, his parent's, or family members should have the information.  If he wasn't Active Duty anymore then the life insurance policy (SGLI) would have ended unless he transferred it to another holder.    That is something again that someone should have the information for.  The Army wouldn't have it at all.

  4. Hi Nadine.

I'm sorry about your Dad. I'll bet he was something special. What you want to do is call the Disabled American Veterans at 1-877-426-2838. Tell them you need help with your insurance policy and they will get it taken care of. If you need anymore help e-mail me.

  5. Your father had to still be on active duty to get his SGLI insurance.  If he was out of the Army and continued that policy it would be called VGLI, but he had to pay the premium each year to keep it current.  The life insurance was on him not on you.  You would just be the beneficiary.  If you type in SGLI or VGLI into your browser you can find the contact numbers for these organizations and they can tell you if he did in fact have life insurance that would still be valid now after his passing away.  I am sorry for your loss and I hope this helps.
