  1. Yes they are all lazy, bone idle b******s!

They drive up and down a track all day(as does my 5 year old with his train set)and I can't believe how much they get paid-they also get 6 months a year full sick pay and they're still moaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They say it is stressful-do they get R.S.I from saying 'Mind the gap'?

  2. Oh my god I cant believe that!! Mind you I suppose with the business with the bombings etc its probably classed as a high risk job now...but still thats not a bad bloody wage for driving up and down one piece of track all day!!

  3. If you think you can do the job then apply for it.

Train driving for real is a very different task from driving your Hornby train set. The trains handle very differently at many stages of the same journey, depending on loading, rail conditions, gradients etc.

Some of these answeres don't seem to appreciate the responsibility the driver has for 600 passengers on the most densely populated railway networks in the World.

Not only that, would you think £45k enough if someone jumped in front of your train?

Compare that job to a footballer on £4.5 Million. Who's better value for money?

In London at least 20% of the passengers probably get paid that mutch in a month!

    Stop wingeing.

  4. If this is in reference to the strike this week - it was MAINTENANCE staff not drivers that were on strike.

  5. Where can I get an application form?

  6. Good job you don't know my brother in law then - works for London Underground and gets 10 weeks holiday - 35 hrs per week and gets paid £45,000.

NOW you know why London Transport is a joke and the fares are so high

  7. It's pathetic!

    They deserve twice that!

  8. What difference does it make to you are u a tube driver??

  9. good for them.after all they after put up with abuse ,violence and many more problems.this type of work is stress ful .

  10. The public would not want tired, stressed, grumpy drivers!

    Good on 'em.

  11. Just to clear this up once and for all, tube drivers current salary is £38,311. It is actually a 37.5 hour week but they are only paid for 35. Contrary to popular belief, there is no overtime available; the unions will not allow it.

Furthermore, the salary may sound a lot but what people, particularly the Evening Standard, conveniently forget to mention is that the shift work can mean a driver starts work any time between 04:45 and 22:30. Most weekends are worked as are bank holidays, Christmas Eve/Boxing Day and New Year all for the same wage. The only guaranteed day off is Christmas Day itself. So to those calling tube drivers "lazy b******s" I challenge you to do three weeks' of late shifts, finishing at around 01:30, getting home even later and then having one so-called 'rest day' before starting an early shift at 04:45. It is not easy.

Lastly, if the job is so easy, then why isn't everyone applying for it? I guarantee you that most people, around 90-95%, would fall at the first hurdle.

Sure, the job may look easy but the old adage is that drivers are paid not so much for what they do but for what they know. Add the responsibility of up to 1,000 lives in your hands and you should hopefully have a better idea of what the job actually entails.

  12. they should go on strike !

what is a tube driver ?..sounds kinky

  13. All that AND you get to drive a train as well! Woo hoo!

  14. 'Berks club' is the only answer I've seen that really addresses the issue in hand!

This latest dispute is about maintenance workers not tube drivers.

OK I'm not going into the arguments of who gets what and are they really worth it.

If underground train drivers are getting the money you say they are (no I'm not disputing that)!

The reason is because the system can afford it!

Now why should likes of you and I question why x is getting more than y?

It's all quite simple to me, employers are in business to make profit, not to provide us with jobs, if they could find and train a monkey to cover the work and pay in peanuts they would without any hesitation.

Am I wrong here???  I think not, this is for sure how the system works.

So I say good luck to the underground train drivers, and better luck to the underground maintenance crews, I don't know all the details but I don't think this has much to do with money they want a guarantee that the money they have paid into a pension is going to be safe, is that really a lot to ask? Bearing in mind the recent fiddles.

They want some sort of guarantee that their jobs will be safe !

                                      Good luck to them all.
