Hello, i think I'm just freaking out because i am so scared of losing this baby. I have a doppler at home and my baby's heart beat has always been around 157 ish this morning when i listened it was 134 and me being me spent the following hour crying and convincing myself something bad has happened. ( hormones ay) What would have caused this sudden decrease if it was 157 yesterday

  1. Nobody's heart rate is always exactly the same, and that includes a fetus. Your heart rate (and the babies) will change depending upon activity level, various stimuli in the environment, your blood sugar level (so what you've been eating) and other things. There is absolutely nothing to worry about, as 134 is still well within a normal range for a fetus. It is also common for it to decrease in overall range the farther into pregnancy you get.

The normal range for a baby during pregnancy is 120 to 170 beats per minute - and probably even a little outside of that can be totally fine too.

This is a reason I am not so sure about people having access to any sort of home-use dopplers. It causes unnecessary stress!

  2. It might have been that your baby was, or just was active. Which would increase his heartbeat. There is nothing to worry about, not to metion that not all at home dopplers are 100% reliable. You may have missed a couple heartbeats, or interpreted movements for heartbeats yesterday. No worries. Good luck!

  3. call your doctor now. itll make you feel better. However, the midwife just told me yesterday not to be alarmed when my babys heartbeat drops because as they get older their heart rate slows. Dont worry. You are over reacting :) But Im like you, the only thing that will make you feel better is to call your doc and hear it from him or her. :)

  4. if you are worried then go see your doctor to make sure the baby is ok . dont stress or it will put more harm on your sweet child. be careful and rest in the mean time

  5. Take you own pulse.  If you've been sitting a while, it will be low.  Then walk around quickly, doing some exercise and take it again.  You heart rate will be much faster.  If I remember correctly, anything above 120 for a fetal heart rate is perfectly normal.  And like yours, it can vary greatly based on the baby's activity.  Your baby could have been asleep or resting at the time you took it.  It could have been moving alot more yesterday and therefore higher.

Also, keep in mind the price you paid for the monitor.  If you didn't buy one that is medical grade, which aren't easily available, it isn't 100% accurate.  You could have been getting the heartbeat at a weird angle so it didn't pick everything up.

So, yeah.  You're overreacting. Welcome to parenthood!  This freaking out almost daily thing will continue for the next 25-30 years.

  6. basically wen ur prego anything can happen.some things can be treated others are mysteries but before crying ur heart out save ur baby

  7. Maybe baby was sleeping.  134 is still a perfectly normal heart rate anyway.  This is one of the reasons that at home doppler use is not recommended in the first place.  It causes too much unnecessary worry.

  8. It might not be that big of a problem. But to be sure I would call your doctor's office and ask them over the phone. They'll tell you if they think you should come in. You're not over reacting, you are just concerned about your baby.
