My husband and I just found out on accident that there was a check written for a 1000 to a store. Now My husband remembers going there 4 years ago to purchase a ATV and wrote a check for a 1000. Ok Everything good to go. I ran into this collection thing for something else and called and they directed me to this ACCS to pay for it. So I called and they have no notice of it. I said great ! I must of paid it anyway the guy said well you have a outstanding check for 1000. I said WHAT !! he said that it was for a bad check. For that store my husband went to over 4 years ago. We have not received any notice, collation or letter or anything about this. We had no idea of this. We still wouldn't' of if I didn't call on the other thing. So my question is why didn't we receive anything. Could this be fraud ? can we get a copy of the check.

  1. The DA wouldn't have it unless you were actually charged with fraud or writing bad checks.  You would know if he or she had it because cops would be at your door.  Invoke the protections of the fair credit reporting act and dispute the underlying debt.  If the ATV store took 4 years to try to collect, they may have missed the statute of limitations.  I would point this out to the ACCS people.  Good luck.

  2. Contact the DA

  3. If a check bounces it goes back to your bank, so your bank should have the original bounced check, if not then it doesn't exist. Ask the "collector" to send you a copy of the paperwork he's got, tell him you want to make sure that it's the same person.

Also you can log on to:

and run your credit check to see if it's on there, if not, don't worry about it.
