So I am the setter and I hurt my thumb while trying to set a bad pass and I hyper exstended my thumb......I had to tape it for the season, but I dnt want to tape it anymore!!! So what I am asking I guess is what can I do to make my thumb stronger again so that I can set without the tape?

  1. don't listen to the guy that answered before. there are braces you can get for your thumb, but it may limit mobility. if you want to get your thumbs stronger (and don't quote on this) play video games. not computer games, video game controllers exercise your thumbs. right now, your best options are tape, rest and ice. good luck with your recovery.

  2. it should have held on its own. it had happened to me to but it held and whenever i get a bad pass to me i just bump it high enough so that they could still spike or hit it. good luck and hope your finger heals.

  3. hmm, maybe some type of ointment like bengay would help. or even a little icy-hot once in a while. i would probably ask your coach for that type of advice. if all else fails, just stick to tape if it's been working for you

  4. Hey I'm not the only setter that injured her hand! I jammed my pinkie really bad last season too. just work out your hand like with a stress ball that seamed to help a lot. But a lot of it is just toughen up. As a setter u have to one of the most athletic and strong girls on the team. Just fight through it and good luck.

  5. Get over it, t**t. It's your thumb, and it was last season.

  6. let it heal

  7. Ahh!

I had the EXACT same problem! I was playing on a different team and it was co ed and some guy on the other team spiked it and it hit my thumb and it was like purple and like 10 times the size of my other thumb!

I took it slow basically cause i couldnt set while my thumb was in such bad shape but i still did some drills!

  8. I broke my pinky in volleyball. and I know it is hard, but the best thing to to is take a break.  Playing around can hurt it even worse. Sometimes you have to be patient, then it will heal and you can go on without pain.

  9. That happened my first season of volleyball.  I know it might be hard, but maybe you should talk to your coach about having a second setter so that if your thumb buggs you then you can switch out.  I didn't like it one bit but I was able to play a 5-1 the following year and that was the best season!

Listen to your body and if your thumb just won't get better, talk to the trainer at your school.

    Hope it works itself out!

  10. let the ball bounce by itself
