me in a toyota mr2...I pressed the gas [harder than usual] just to see what it would to. Now keep in mind that this was my friends car not mine...it took off kinda fast. I only hit 30 but my cousins friend squealed his tires behind me. As I was leaving the walmart parking lot there was a cop stopped by some people who had a fender bender. He stopped me and asked me to wait for him. Of course I did but my cousin and his friend left. After all the cop ended up giving me a ticket for squealing tires in the walmart parking lot. Which I did not do. I didnt tell him this though because I did not want him to think that I was mouthing off and I wanted to keep from getting a ticket at all costs. Not only that, I was on private property!!! Is he allowed to do this??

  1. Starman is right and wrong.

He is right in that you should have politely explained what happened.  The car behind you squealed the tires.

He is wrong in that police officers do have the rights to enforce traffic laws on parking lots.  There are no parking zones, handicapped parking, speed limits (15 mph) and so on.

What you should do is to go to court, explain it to the judge and see what they offer you.  Best would be to throw the case out, worst would be the fine you would have gotten anyway.  Nothing to lose.

  2. Yes, the officer is allowed to give you the ticket.  It is no more legal to squeel tires in a Wallmart parking lot then on the street.  You will need to defend your position in court or just pay the fine.  30 is a bit fast for a parking lot and noit especially safe or smart.  You could have been cited for excessive speed as well.  Thank your lucky star and try to find some defense that shows you did not sqeel your tires, as in a witness, photos of the lot where it happend, that sort of thing.

  3. pay the ticket

    drive safer

The police officer  (the term cop is a slur)  may have saved your life later on.

  4. You should have politely said that it was the car behind you. But since you were in the parking lot the cop has no jurisdiction. Take it to court, plead not guilty and present your case. Have it prepared and written bfore you go. If they find you guilty tel them you want to appeal it. Most likely they will then dismiss the case as it's not worth their time and cost to persue it.
