roughly need for lunch and dinner and train tickets, i have found a cheap place to stay which has breakfast included, however as it is going to be just me (a student) and my friends (so no parents to help out) i'm trying to figure out how much in euros i should take with me and am not really sure how far ten euros goes today in paris.

I went to Paris while in college and also stayed at a hotel that included breakfast. For lunch we would get some crepes or sandwiches to go and for dinner a brasserie or bistro. It helps since you're going with friends to order a few dishes that everyone can split.

As for the things to do, I would get the Paris Museum Pass (http://www.parismuseumpass.com/en/home.p... available for 2-days [30 Euros], 4-days [45 Euros], or 6-days [60 Euros]. This pass allows unlimited visits to the following places in Paris:

I would aslo buy the unlimited metro pass (Paris Visite) for the time you'll be there. I found it so much more cost effective. You can check out the prices for the different number of days and zones at http://www.ratp.fr/

This pass is on sale in all metro, RER and SNCF stations, the Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports and in certain Parisian hotels and many tour operators abroad.

My advice is to make good use these unlimited passes so that you can calculate costs ahead of time and be sure to take advantage of the under-25 discounts.

depends on what standards you have. a mcdonalds meal would cost around 5 Euro. So would a sandwich. But a dinner at a restaurant can be anything between 15-20 a head to a few hundreds....

I used to live in Paris so I can really help you. A set menu meal (as opposed to ordering a la carte) can be quite cheap - you may find you can get 2 or evn 3 courses for less than 10 euros. The cheapest way to travel is on the metro. Buy a carnet (book) of 10 tickets rather than purchasing them individually. That will cost you around 10 euros, perhaps slightly more. It is possible to do Paris on the cheap - your student card will get you into most galeries at a reduced rate and if you are studying art you can get in for free. Also, check for the tarif jeunesse (reduced rate for young people under 25) as this will apply in a lot of places. Obviously it depends where you want to eat but some places are cheaper than others. The Latin Quarter and Montmartre have some good, cheap restaurants, whereas the Champs Elysees is obviously going to be more expensive. You can get lovely savoury crepes for lunch in either of these places for about 4 euros. Another tip which is very handy to know: in Paris you pay more in a cafe depending on where you sit. If you sit at the bar it will be cheapest, if you sit at a table it will be more expensive and sitting outside will cost the most of all.

it is not cheap we stayed in a 4 star hotel 200 euro a night in the U.S. it would have been a 45 dollar a night room at motel 8 and would still been nicer (hotel Luxembourg) they have different standards. if you want to save money you can buy a 3 or 4 day pass for the trains its cheaper than a pass every time. also another good idea is get a two day pass on the tourist double Decker's they stop at all the hot spots that way you don't have to guess were every thing is and its cheap, and a buss stops by every 15 min. meals it depends on were you go you could pay any were from 5 to 30 euro.

I lived in Paris for a few months doing research last summer.  What was meant to be a 14 day trip kind of morphed into a three month long trip.  I originally took 1200 dollars for the first 14 days and ended up with 200 dollars by the end of the enitial trip.  After that I found odd jobs and lived off a small allowence.  But for four days when it comes to budgeting meals and sight seeing, you should be able to swing 500 dollars.  I had a friend that did it last summer when she came to see me.  And she used the 500 to buy food, goodies, and pay for transportation and sight seeing.  You just have to spend wisely, and since you are going with friends take advantage of splitting the cost of meals.  It works!  and the crepe and panni guys are always a way to get good cheap food!  And as the girl above mentioned, take advantage of the student discounts and the under 25 discounts!  Hope that was helpful!

You can buy intown train tix for a flat day rate.  I am not sure what the cost is right now but when I was there several years ago it was about $28.00 American/day.  It was worth it with unlimited stops and goes all over Paris.  You can eat cheap by eating early at small bistros and bars.  They serve excellent food for 1/4 the price of fine dining.  Or, get paninis from street vendors or stop at a hot food stand for a piece of rotisserie chicken with green beans.  Delish!  The exchange rate of the Euro is .74 to our $1.00 so you need 1.25 for one euro... doing the math of 2 meals day plus a snack x 4 days = 8 meals at avg of 7.00-12.00 = 100.00 but you will want drinks and treats and so I would take $200.00 for food and then 60.00 for train.  If you go to any of the museums, you can check the tix prices online to help with your budget of how much overall money you will need for what you want to see.  The Louvre should post prices as well as the Musey de Orsay, Rodin's museum, Notre Dame just takes donations, Eiffel Tower has a fee to go to the top but it is free to just stand back and look at, the carousel at Eiffel Tower charges to ride.   Probably total to be safe would be $700.00.  Take extra good care to wear a f***y pack with travelers cheques as the gypsies watch tourists and will pickpocket you in a heartbeat on trains.  They use the bump into you trick to take your money.  They are usually young and innocent looking and work in gangs.... Just be careful and wear the f***y pack under your clothes in front.  How do I know this?  It happened to my friend who had just gone to the ATM and had $700.00 cash in his pocket that they took!!!!  The police said it was common.....
