  1. I have one too, and all that means is that you don't have the blackberry data services and you cant mms text download things off the internet or browse the blackberry web

  2. I'll assume you have installed your SIM card.

You have to notify T-Mobile if you want to activate Blackberry data services. I had a Palm Treo with internet data services, but did the same thing you did...I bought a Pearl on Ebay and saw the same error. I called T-Mobile and they activated the proper data network for my account.

The cost for Internet service from T-Mobile Blackberrys is $20 per month for unlimited access.

The Edge signal is just an indicator that the phone detects the Edge data network in your area. The Blackberry will pick up two signals: Edge for data and GSM for voice. The Edge network access is what you have to have activated on your phone.

By the way, you can find the manuals for the Blackberry on the T-Mobile website. You should register on my-tmobile.com with your phone number and change your default phone to the Blackberry Pearl. You can then browse through the site and get all the support you need, including manuals.

You'll like the Pearl. I love mine.

Don't forget to get the Pearl management software from the Blackberry website to sync your phone and back up your data to your computer.
