Determine the equation of a line that passes through (2,3) and (4,7), and then graph the equation.

Let the equation of the line be Y=mx+b .1

since the line passes through (2,3), 3=2m +b .2

since the line passes through (4,7)

7=4m+b .3

then .3-.3 wich would be 2m= what....

m=what

substituting this in to .2

3=blank +b

b=blank

substituting the values of m and b into .1

y=blankx-blank

thanks if you can help sry if this was confusing

  1. ok so you can determine the slope, m, from the two points using y2-y1/(x2-x1).  doing that you get (7-3)/(4-2) or 4/2=2=m

    then just put one of the points into the y=mx+b equation.  You have m=2 and using 2,3, you get 3=2(2) +b; 3=4+b; therefore b= -1.  So the equation ends up being y=2x -1 .  You just needed to remember that you can get the slope of a line from any two points on the line.
