  1. you should go out for the team

and during the practices you will definitely work on endurance and get fit.

  2. swim as many laps as you can. I am on a hard year around swim team and they build you up for it so you can build yourself up so when you get there your ready.

  3. Since you had admitted that you are pretty good at swimming and are fast too, no problem in that aspect.

Try deep breathing exercises in order to improve and increase the capacity of your lung power, which would in turn makes your performance improve. This is due to the fact that that increase in lung function helps one to take deeper breaths and hold them longer too. More breath into the lungs means more oxygen into your body and less tiredness would be felt.

  4. It depends on when your season starts. If it's in the winter, spring or next fall, then you should definitely join a club swim team beforehand--that would be the best preparation for a school team. They work on your technique and get you in shape. A lot of YMCAs have teams for a wide range of ages (6-19 usually).

If your tryout is more like next week, then there isn't much you can do in such short time, but you could look up swim workouts online and do some cross-training--running, stretches, etc.
