  1. alright first of all congrats to you for actually wanting to do this on your own.

    1. so first to bevel pretty much means to sharpen it is not a very important term.

    2. now the tools that you should have would be a side edge tuner that looks like a 90 degree angle an a base edge tuner which should look like kind of a parellelogram on the base edge tuner it should say something like one degree of two Segree if you are a recreational skier or a light racer it should say 1 degree

3&4 you will only need a file if there is super serius rust on your edges and even if there is you will only need to go over the edge a few times. With a dimond file i would suggest to get some edge sauce to put on it and use that a few times on the side edge and the base edge.  Finally i would suggest to get a ceramic stone usually they are white stones wit a very fine grit (400-600) it does not seem like it does a lot but it hardens the edges.  i hope that my explanation was not  to long.

  2. 1. Bevel is an angle to the base or the side of the ski edge. For most recreational skiers, a 1x1 bevel is standard for most shaped skiis. This a 1 degree up from the base and 1 degree in from the side.

2 How can you tell the angle? This is a guide not an exact degree to keep every time about the same.   Take a large felt tip marker and paint the edges with it. Then with an adjustable edge tool start sharpening the edges at 1 degree.

    3. Sharpen the base first then the side edges. When the ink is gone the edge is sharp.

    4. The diamond stone is used to remove the case hardening that happens to a ski edge when a rock is skied over and the hot steel edge is then plunged into ice cold snow. Once the hard spot is removed use the base tool.  A file is very difficult to use with a consistent bevel as a result. I've been tuning my own skiis for 40+ years and prefer a tool as opposed to a file. It's easier and faster and much more consistent. The sharpening tool is about $40-$60 depending on the brand, but well worth the money.  I prefer a Barrecrafters " Skilit" tool.

After you have sharpened the edges, use a gummi stone to remove all burrs, find the burrs with a cotton ball to find where your touch up is needed.

The last step is a hot wax of the ski, then a scrape down to a thin layer.

  3. I have seen a blog just recently with all kinds of great snowboarding items like clothing, boots, and gear I also seen free video on there too for skiing and snow boarding it's a must see site just look around it's mixed in all the posts you'll see it it's enlarged text for the free videos, and regional conditions
