Ok so is ouija board real?

Question

because me and my friends are going to play it today.and my mom has played it before and she told me that if u play it and get scared you have to give it away to somebody???OK i dont really believe this i went to search for youtube videos and they all look fake to me and usually people say u have to play it safe i just dont get it i mean is it really real???because if it is i dont want to do it???i dont want to be cursed or get haunted by some evil ghosts

i've heard different stories from different people over the year's.  growing up, i was told by my mother never to mess with a ouija board becase it's kinda like telling spirits that you're open to communicating with them.

however, i've had various friends that did mess with oujia boards.  some said nothing happened, where others said that they did get responses.

i've been told that if you build your own ouiji board, meaning youd draw it from scratch, it creates a really powerful ouiji board because you're basically opening yourself up to the dark side.  i had a friend who did this with his mother, and he said the respones were extremely strong and straightforward.  however, he said it got to a point where the ouiji board started replying to their questions with curse words and nothing else (the thing would tell him to go F*ck himself).  after that, he said his house kinda became haunted and bad things started happening.  long story short, he had to burn the ouiji board and after that things went back to normal.  i know the story sounds like BS, but this was a guy i worked with for years and he wasn't the type to make up lies.  

it's all up to you what you want to do.

The ouija board is safe.  If you play it you won't be cursed or haunted and nothing evil will happen.  The ouija board is just a game that you can buy in most toy stores and department stores, an ordinary piece of wood or plastic or cardboard.  It is meant for two or more players so it will not work very well if you try to use it alone.  It has no supernatural powers.  It does not communicate with the dead and it does not contact spirits.  It does not open any portals to the underworld or to anywhere else.  The people using the ouija board make it work through ideomotor movement.  It plays on your mind and imagination and your susceptibilities and beliefs and fears.  It can be scary because the imagination is a powerful thing, and can make you believe just about anything.  Here are a couple of links that discuss ouija boards and how to use them.

Well, if something dose come, you have to respect it, or else its going to get really mad.... don't fall for any tricks and you have to chant something when your finished... and one rule i think that is true, your supposed to say "goodbye" when your about to go, and you cant say it until it says "goodbye" that's what i've heard....

This is really a question of perspective.  Here's what I mean:

Of course the Ouija board is real.  It is detectable by all 5 senses.

But if the real question is, does it have any supernatural powers, the answer is almost always, no.

The vast majority of "supernatural" experiences with the Ouija board occur in groups of people- usually three or more.  The actual dynamics of what happens quite common.

Think of what happens when a large fight breaks out.  Afterward, nobody can remember who started it.  Or at least, there are many different accounts of what happened.  Even if the fight only lasted a few seconds.

In principle, this is what is happening with the Ouija board.  Everyone is adding input into a system expecting it to move.  When it does move, it may not move in the direction anyone expects because the ultimate expression of that motion is the sum of all the input.  Thus, every person playing may actually believe he/she is not actually causing the pointer to move.  It can truly seem to have a 'life of its own'!

But in reality, it is simply a toy that plays upon simple group dynamics for its entertainment value.  That is what has made it such a popular object for so long- the fact that it is rooted in simplicity.

Encounters with these sorts of toys can produce all kinds of emotion.  Adding a spooky atmosphere and music can heighten these effects.  It can even be fun at times.  But it's like a magic trick.  Often times, these sorts of things are more fun when we don't understand how they work- because then, they can still capture our imaginations.

As a side note, you should know that there are many people who believe that the Ouija board is a conduit for supernatural and even evil forces.  Many hold fast to this belief, even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

To this, I can only say that if there truly are evil forces out there determined to do us harm, I think they'd have better means of attacking us than through a child's toy.  And- if by some crazy chance that I am wrong, then I still don't think that I would be very scared of any evil force whose power was limited to a board game.
