ok i am a security guard, thats my part time job. and ive been working as a rentacop for a year. I'm quitting though, I sent out the 2 week notice and aug. 5th is my last day, and just some observations:

now what I wanna know is.. why are there so many rentacops out there that are so arrogant? there are a lot of rentacops who think they're real cops or something. from talking with the guys at work... I can tell, belive me I can tell... some of their ego is unbelievable. it's borderlining embarassing.

and a lot of them just take their job way too seriously. i work in an office building... and not to put down any of them, but..i think the majority of the workers just view them as another piece of furniture in the building

  1. Well they're not as arrogant as Mansker (the guy the shot Steve Foley, people the live in Coronado could tell you some stories)

  2. they are so arrogant because so many people can become them and they get power hungry. they get alittle power and they extend it more than they should. most of the security guards that work as one for more than a few years are just people that cant make it as real cops.

  3. They have "Small man syndrome".

  4. I used to be a security site manager for 3 companies in N.Y., and I know what you're saying. Though none of the guards I've had to supervise were what you could exactly call "wannabe cops" (that's just a stereotype, I think), many of them did have serious social and mental problems, probably had double-digit IQs, and could often be pretty rude to visitors and clients. Basically, all you need to do to be a security guard is to sit at a desk and stay awake, walk around the building and hit the keys, and put notes in a logbook once in a while. In this field, you can't expect your coworkers to be Einsteins.

  5. ok, lets say this....first of all not all security officers are arrogant...i am one now...granted i hate my job but it pays the bills right now while i am going back to school to get my degree in nursing.

i used to work as a real police officer for my local sheriff's office, i am post certified. i did that for three years. i must say that i loved it. working with criminal element is awesome if you can tolate stress and politics.

i quit that so i could work normal hours and get my degree and have a better paying job which would be safe for my soon to be family. i am not arrogant and never have been. most security guards / officers are big men or small men with a napeleon complex however there is a small percent like myself that actually wanted somethins less challanging to focus on other details of there life.

so you should not place every one in the same category.

  6. because maby they have always wanted to be cops but either dont have the college degree or might have a criminal record and can not be a actual police officer or some other type of law enforcement

  7. I think a lot of the reason is that they want to be cops.  But, for whatever reason, they don't pass the physical or psychological requirements for the job.

  8. it's a defense mechanism I reckon

  9. they are wanna be cops but in reality...and sometimes being a security officer is the closest they will ever get to it.
