Ok somone broke in my home and I need to know is my stuff covered under insurance. Problem is I bought the laptop in my brothers name. Because when I was 17 I didn't have any credit to purchase it. And my lcd tv is in my name but my mom is a co-signer for it. Does these things has to be in the home insurance owner name to be covered. I called the insurance company she said it takes 48 hours for me to speak to someone in regard to that. So I need to know is this true.

  1. i have never had an adjuster ask who purchased items on a homeowner loss.  i wouldn't tell unless he asks.  just be honest and pay them off for the people who helped you. It really should not make a difference as the property was in your care and custody at the time of loss.  24-48 hrs is about normal to get an adjuster to call you on a loss.

  2. Home insurance is actually very flexible. I'm not familiar with all the details of my homeowners policy, but my home insurance agent is always helpful. Try calling your agent or a homeowners agent in your area. http://www.usinsuranceadvisor.com/Home-I... They should be able to help you.

  3. OK, who's name is on the policy?  What type of policy is it?  Do you have theft coverage?

If YOU don't have homeowners or renters insurance, with theft coverage, than nothing is going to be covered.   The stuff that IS covered, is YOUR stuff - stuff that YOU own.

Only the person whose name is on the policy, gets paid.  The isnruance company will only talk to the insured person - not their kids.  YOU can't put a claim in under someone else's policy.

But if your MOM has the policy, and it's her house, and there's theft coverage, there's coverage for all the stuff owned by her resident relatives - including you and your brother.  But the CHECK goes to your mom.
