Ok soo... Im really scared now!?

Im watching the documentary on the national geographic channel saying if the world increses by just 3 degrees, all the ice caps will be melted and the extra water could flood any major city including new york, shanghi, tokyo, you name it! Also, the Savanna will dry out and all the fruit will stop growing!! Ahhh this is so depressing, any thoughts?

Its better to get to grips with the problem than have it bite us without warning. Unfortunateley climate does seem to be changing. The cause of that is still being argued, whatever the cause is we need long term consistence leadership in terms of analysing the problems and finding solutions. The Earth is similar to a biological entity in its own right with very complicated interacting systems. If we are going to continue to use energy and change the chemistry of the planet the way we do then we need to find a way to balance this effect. Politicians are too short term and distracted with there own popularity and defeating short term enemies. This problem needs some kind of long term world government with teeth to make sure things get done. Especially pressure placed on industry to change right now and powerfull incentives to individuals to rethink how we live.

That's the inconvenient truth about global warming! Don't worry! We can change it back! There will be some challenges,but humans are very adaptable.  Learn all you can about Science and Nature.  There will be a big demand for Scientists in the future!

this documentary sucks so far...  Im sorry.

Theyre talking about katrina right now... which has nothing to do with global warming.  Its their fault for building a city below sea level surrounded by walls.  I heard, before hurricane katrina, that if a catogory 3 hurricane hit it, it would destroy the levees and flood the city.  And a year later, it happened.  It wasnt that it was an exceptional hurricane, it was that it hit in the wrong spot.

Fill a glass with ice cubes.  Then fill it with water.  Now you have a model of the polar ice cap in the ocean.

Watch the glass, carefully, while the ice melts.  If the glass overflows as the movie says, then worry.  If the glass does not overflow when the ice melts.  Stop worrying.  The show was just science fiction.

Also, note the temperature difference from midnight to midday in your area.   If that change is more than 3 degrees and nothing terrible happens, stop worrying.  The show was just science fiction.  A few unrelated bits of information stung together to be sensational.  Sensationalism sells.
