Lets say there was a big fire in a fair big yet enclosed store.

there was only fire extingisher and there is no way to put out

the whole fire. will more of the fire be extingished if you use the

extingisher the way it was made for or is it better to shoot it

(provided that no one gets hurt)

basicly what im asking is: if you shoot a fire extingisher with a

big bullet (like a sniper bullet) will it extingish more of a fire

then if you use it like you are suppose to

  1. Unless the fire extinguisher coats the fire's fuel and makes it unavailable for further burning, it will make no difference whether you release it in one shot of if you expend it as it should be expended.

It's probably best to use it as intended if only because the container itself may create shrapnel if it is explosively decompressed.

  2. The number of fire extinguishers is proportional to the largeness of the fire to be extinguished. With one extinguisher, the best you can do is to shoot it at a spot as isolated from the big fire as possible and hope help will arrive.

  3. They did this on Mythbusters with the Jaws myth about the exploding SCUBA tank.  The tank didn't explode, it only ruptured and then spun around until all the pressure released.
