Ok this is a dual citizenship question?

if a person had a dual citizenship for america and somewhere else and suddenly went missing right after they did they stopped being an american citizen, would the american police be able to look for them, or would it have to be turned over to the other country even though they went missing in america and were an american citizen at the time?

  1. first it is very hard to give up us citizenship.

    see or call www.state.gov as us police do not look for them but the us state dep can help locate the person if they want to be located. they are the diplomatic arm of the us that deals with situation like this.

    if you are born here and naturalized here unless you go through a formal ceremony with the state dept you are still a legal us citizen.

Not quite certain of the question, but in general if a person is holding dual (including US) citizenship and is traveling on a US passport, then the American Citizen Services section of the US Embassy in the foreign country in question would assist in trying to locate the missing citizen, in conjunction with the local authorities (the FBI is generally considered the lead agency involved in crimes against US citizens abroad).  If, on the other hand, the missing person was traveling on another country's passport at the time of the disappearance, technically the burden of official responsibility would fall on that country to assist in locating the missing person, again, in conjunction with the local authorities.
