  1. The rules were developed by a few guys after developing the Melbourne Football Club.  It is fair to say they grabbed rules from various other sports, but the game itself started in Australia.

  2. i dont know! it's based on Gaelic football which is Irish...

  3. No, it started in Melbourne. Its based on Gaelic football, and was started to keep footballers fit during winter. It definately did not start in the UK.

Edit - oooops sorry Ray. I meant cricketers. Too many beers at lunch ha ha!

  4. umm i think its called Aussie Rules for a reason...

  5. Duh thats why its called aussie rules. maybe a galic thing who knows but Aussie rules are aussie rules so dont argue them.lol

  6. ha ha its a c**p game with no rules football s a lot better, up the CLARETS

  7. I heard it began in order to keep cricketers fit in winter. If this is actually true then it figures it would have some ties to England and more likely the gaelic version of AFL. But I'm not 100% sure.

  8. Richo Fev, like his two namesakes is confused.  It was developed to keep cricketers, not footballers, fit.  (Sorry mate :-))  But otherwise he is right.

There is a resemblance to Gaelic football, but there is little to no evidence of any derivation from the other.  There are also some very substantial differences (I might also point out that Gaelic does not qualify as 'UK')

  9. Isn't there anything on BarryHallHall, or the AFL home page?

  10. no aussie rules started in oz<melbourne> there were 2 teams
