Question

so i was just wondering how old you were when you first got your period.

i am 15 in 2 days and i got mine when i was 12 but i didnt tell my mom for 6 months. my bff just told me she got it for the first time and she is 15 i thought that was crazy but my mom said you tend to get it sooner if there are other woman in the house and i had my mom, aunt 3 girl cousins and 4 older sister(thats only old girls haha) but i was just curious...

I think I got mine around 11 or 12...on my mom's birthday. LOL. She couldn't stop crying. Ugh, I hate it...its so disgusting and an overall pain. I get horrible cramps as well, but I guess it comes with the territory?

I got mine a couple of months before my 11th birthday.

Your menstrual cycle is dictated by hormones, heredity and little else.  You start your cycles when your hormone levels have reached the appropriate level in your body to start stimulating ovarian function.  If your female ancestors started at a particular age, it is a good chance that you will typically start around that time as well.

I was 13, and i got mine on valentines day. yeah cramps are normal..and they suck very bad. take Advil if/when you get them

i was 12, but i dont have any siters just my mom in my house so i dont know how true that is..  but my frined told me she got hers at 16 i was a little jealous..  

I do get cramps on  occasion not enough to complain about though

no you dont get it sooner because there are more women in the house, i got mine about the same age and the only other girl was my mom. and yes sometimes i get really bad cramps.

i got mine when i was 12. everyone gets it at different times...i dont think it true though that you get it sooner with more girls in the house..well at least ive never heard that. and, no i dont get cramps. my mom and friends do but ive only has them once

nah girls just get it at different ages not because of how many women there are in the house..

i dont think having a lotta women around has anything to do with the starting of periods...as far as cramps are concerned....sometimes they happen....and sometimes they dont...

I think I was 12 or 13... And I get really bad cramps because I have ovarian cysts. I get sick from my cramps.

I was 10, almost 11, but didn't tell my mom for months after. I have never gotten cramps and I generally don't get PMS.

i was 13 when i got mine. And many people get their periods at many different times. I get cramps once in a while. Im one of the lucky ones who doesnt get them real bad

it just depends on you... no one can determine your period age.

my cramps always feel like i have butterflies in my stomach, not so much painful, but i don;t eat much.

Good question......

Twelve is an average age to start your periods.  The main predictor of when you will start is the age at which your mum, sisters and aunties started their periods.  It would be interesting to ask your friend how old her mum, sisters and aunties were when they started their periods.

Whether or not you get cramps is individual, but if you do get cramps Ibuprofin or Midol will help.  Also a hot water bottle on the tummy is soothing.

Yeah, all girls get it at different times in their life. I got mine when I was in grade 6 :S. And i was the first girl in my class which was kinda freaky. Mine is really bad, i get severe cramps and a bit of pms:P lol I grew up with 2 sisters plus my mom, but i dont know if other women in the house makes a diff. Lol kinda weird but i told my dad before i told my mom.
